Oroslavje combines castle and church history with landscaped parks, as well as guided experiences and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Oroslavje, choosing a focus for your trip can help guide your planning: the historical themes explore different periods and art forms, while the activities offer a variety of formats.

Castle and Church History

Dvorac Oroslavje Donje was built toward the end of the 18th century by Sigismund Vojković/Vojkffy. The Late Baroque building has a U-shaped floor plan. Its vaults preserve rare Late Baroque paintings from the late 18th century, with motifs drawn from Greek and Roman mythology. The main hall also contains a distinctive feature: Croatia’s only Late Baroque–Classicist stove. The building’s form, mythological imagery, and stove offer different insights into its architecture and interiors.

The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary adds a sacred historical dimension. It was probably built in 1652 or 1653 and was first mentioned in 1669; it has been a parish church since 1941. Its altar dates from the early 18th century and includes a tabernacle and an image of the Virgin Mary with a silver crown. The dates provide a timeline for the church’s construction, while the altar’s details add a distinctive art-historical note. The Chapel of St. Peter in Krušljevo Selo is also located in the vicinity of Oroslavje. It was built in 1808 and is designated an important cultural monument.

Park Culture and Historical Connections

Oroslavje Donje Castle Park is protected as a monument of park architecture and covers 5.43 hectares. The park surrounding the castle is considered a landscape park. Its earlier design is associated with Baroque-Classicist garden elements; the redesign of 1885 represents landscape-romantic garden architecture. These dates help distinguish the different design styles chronologically.

The garden at Vranyczany Park was modelled on Versailles and included a lake and an island. Vranyczany Park also preserves Baroque statues of Flora and a satyr, depicting mythological figures. Another historical connection is Franz Liszt: he stayed at the Vranyczany estate twice in 1846 and gave a concert for the local nobility. The gardens, sculpture, and music history thus offer distinct themes.

Experiences in Different Formats

At the Labirint ogledala in Park znanosti, six regularly arranged mirror walls create an experience of multiple reflections. Park znanosti offers groups guided tours lasting 60 minutes; group visits must be announced in advance. Educational workshops are also part of the programme. They combine active research, creative expression, play, and entertainment. If you are planning a group visit, check the latest reservation and programme details in advance.

Paintball DUM-DUM organises recreational paintball in Oroslavje for individuals and organised groups. The playing field in Mokrice, Oroslavje, covers more than 6,000 square metres and has more than 300 shelters. The two activities also differ in the information they provide for planning: Park znanosti specifies the duration and group format of its tour, while the paintball field’s size and number of shelters provide concrete points of reference. Check the latest activity arrangements before planning.
