Donje Pazariste offers several points of interest for planning a themed trip: the parish church and its monastic history, local beer and dairy products, and opportunities for cycling and hiking. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you match your interests to your stay. Would you rather explore history, regional products or a route? Pazarište features in two different route descriptions; the hiking reference concerns nearby Ostrovica.

Church and History

The parish church of Saint James the Apostle is a historic landmark in Donje Pazariste. The present-day church building was constructed around 1839 on the foundations of a Pauline monastery dating from the 15th century. In 1896, parishioners are said to have called the church “kloštar.” The dates refer to different aspects: the 15th century to the monastery, around 1839 to the present-day church building, and 1896 to the historical name. The church is classified as a single immovable cultural property. This classification adds a distinct cultural-heritage aspect to its architectural history.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

For cycling, two route descriptions should be distinguished. The official Štirovača cycling route passes through Pazarište between Aleksinica and Štirovača. The Pazarište–Štirovača MTB route starts in the village of Pazarište. In the first route, Pazarište is a waypoint; in the second, it is the starting village. This distinction can help with planning: one description gives the route between two named places, while the other identifies the start of an MTB route.

For hiking, the nearby place of Ostrovica is another point of interest. Ostrovica is checkpoint 13 on the Lički gorski biseri hiking circuit. The Ostrovica route first passes a viewpoint and then continues to the remains of a former fortress. The checkpoint number locates Ostrovica on the hiking circuit; the viewpoint and fortress remains describe features along the route. Check the conditions for your planned route before setting out.

An Indian village is also listed as a point of interest near Pazarište. This provides another named place to consider as a separate point of interest alongside the routes.

Local Products

Pivovara Ličanka is based in Donje Pazariste. Its product range includes Velebitsko in light and dark varieties, as well as the specialty beer Kasačko. Ličanka’s products are made without preservatives or additives. The Kolačević family farm in Donje Pazariste produces semi-hard cow’s milk cheese, cow’s milk škripavac, quark, Basa and yoghurt. The selection includes other dairy products as well as cheese. This means beer and dairy products are two distinct themes among the local products. If you are considering a visit to the farm, check locally in advance whether visits are possible.
