In the Municipality of Farkaševac, nature and cultural attractions are spread across several places. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus primarily on the landscape, historic sites, church art, or horse-riding activities.

Landscape and Nature of the Municipality of Farkaševac

The Municipality of Farkaševac lies in the far eastern part of Zagreb County, in a predominantly flat landscape that is largely forested. Agriculture and livestock farming, a peaceful rural setting, and high ecological quality characterize the municipality. Rural, eco, and hunting tourism have been identified as areas for tourism development.

The Česma–Bolčanski lug hunting area is predominantly lowland. It is bounded by the Vukšinac and Siščani fishponds, the Velika and Česma waterways, and old river meanders. The Česma area was protected in 1982 as a special forest vegetation reserve with a permanent experimental plot, and is associated with UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme. The Česma–Bolčanski lug hunting area provides habitat for protected species such as the white-tailed eagle, black stork, beaver, and otter.

In the western part of the Municipality of Farkaševac are the Dunjara and Žabnica waterways and their tributaries. The county roads Ž-3042, running east–west, and Ž-2231, running north–south, are the main traffic routes for navigating the municipality.

Historic Sites and Churches

In Farkaševac, Farkaševa gradina dates from the 14th to the 16th century. This medieval circular fortification has two defensive ditches, which were once connected to a stream. It is registered as a cultural property under preventive protection, designation P-4591.

The cultural and historical complex of Bolč comprises an archaeological area of a medieval settlement surrounded by a ditch, the parish church and rectory, historic residential and farm buildings on large plots that have retained their original layout, and an avenue of horse chestnut trees. Together, they form an area of historical, architectural, and landscape value.

The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Bolč is a single-nave late Baroque church. It dates from the late 18th century and is classified as a protected cultural property.

In Kabal, the Orthodox branch church of St. Nicholas was built in 1760. The surviving iconostasis ensemble in the Church of St. Nicholas includes two Annunciation icons. They probably belong to the last surviving parts of the former iconostasis, dating from around 1760.

Horse-Riding Activities in the Bolč Area

Konjički klub Libertas offers rides lasting one or several hours in the area around Bolč. They take you through unspoiled forests, past hidden ponds, and across the broad fields and meadows of the Bolčanski lug area and along the Velika and Česma rivers. The different durations can help you estimate how much time to allow for a ride.

At Ranch Bolč, the Konjički klub Libertas riding club organizes a riding school, recreational rides, pony rides, riding for children, and therapeutic riding from October to April. If you are planning a riding activity, check availability for your preferred dates in advance.
