When looking for a hotel in Sveta Nedelja, you can plan your trip around the themes that interest you: sacred architecture, cycling, landscape or a culinary event. Local highlights include historic churches, cycling routes, lakes, craft activities and a fish-cooking competition. This lets you decide in advance whether culture, activity or an event will shape your stay.

Churches and sacred art

The Parish Church of the Most Holy Trinity stands in the town centre. The parish was first mentioned in 1501 in the list of parishes in the Diocese of Zagreb; however, the church itself was not built until 1768–1786. These dates mark different historical milestones: the parish’s early mention and the later construction of the church building. The church is considered an important example of Late Baroque architecture. Its main altar dates from 1811.

Another historic landmark is the Chapel of St. Rocco, first mentioned in 1668. It has a restored Baroque altar dating from 1751. Its organ dates from 1799 and was made by the Celje organ builder Anton Scholz. The instrument has seven stops and one manual, but no pedal. The churches therefore offer different points of interest for culturally minded travellers: at the parish church, the focus is on its construction period and main altar, while the Chapel of St. Rocco also stands out for its early mention and the organ’s specific features.

Lakes and cycling routes

The Sava-Strmec Ornithological Reserve lies directly beside Strmec’s main lake. The lake at Rakitje is the largest and best-known lake in the area. These are two distinct landscape features to consider when planning: the reserve is directly connected to Strmec’s main lake, while Rakitje Lake stands out for its size. Those with a particular interest in landscape and birdlife can take these themes into account alongside the cycling options.

Cyclists can choose between an MTB route through the Sveta Nedelja hills and an easier, family-friendly ride. The second route runs around the lakes, the Sava River and the Sava-Strmec Ornithological Reserve. The two options differ in both their described character and their route: the MTB route crosses the hills, while the easier ride takes in several bodies of water and landscape features.

The Sveta Nedelja Adrenaline Centre is connected to walking trails and cycling routes that run through the Sveta Nedelja hills. These route connections may change, so check them before planning your trip. The Centre is in Jagnjić Dol. Activities offered there include quad biking, an adventure park, paintball, archery, human table football and a zip line. As the range of activities may change, it is advisable to check which activities are currently available before visiting.

Guided tours and crafts

The Rimac Campus can be visited on guided tours. Tour access and booking arrangements may change, so check the current tour and booking conditions before travelling.

Crafts are also among the local highlights. The technique and craft of making Sveta Nedelja kraluž have been included in Croatia’s Register of Protected Intangible Cultural Heritage. An association organises kraluž-making workshops and other craft activities. If you are interested in taking part, confirm that the workshops are available to visitors before travelling.

Sveta Nedelja Fish Festival

The Sveta Nedelja Fish Festival is a culinary event and fish-cooking competition held at Rakitje Lake. The fish is cooked in a 600-litre cauldron; local traditional dishes and cakes are also on offer. Event details may vary from one edition to the next. Check the dates before travelling. This lets you include a possible event date in your travel plans without treating it as interchangeable with the year-round attractions of churches, lakes and cycling routes.
