Mičevec: Culture and Local History
Accommodation in Mičevec
Mičevec can be explored through the Church of St. Benedict the Abbot, the cultural work of KUD Mičevec, or a specific event date. These topics differ in their time span. Church and cultural history cover several years and traditions, while individual events relate to specific editions. This makes it possible to understand Mičevec through both broader cultural connections and dated events.
The Church and Recent Local History
The Church of St. Benedict the Abbot was built between 2005 and 2007 and consecrated on 15 October 2016. The church and the parish house were damaged in the earthquakes of 22 March and 29 December 2020; the church was restored in 2022. In chronological order, the construction phase and consecration were followed by two earthquakes in 2020 and the restoration in 2022. The history of the church’s construction thus connects its origins with later events in recent local history.
Culture, Language and Tradition
The book “Etno Mičevec,” published in 2000, describes historical customs and includes a dictionary of old local expressions. Those interested in language and cultural heritage will find a written introduction to two specific topics relating to the area: customs and older local vocabulary.
KUD Mičevec is active in literature, music, theatre, dance, visual culture, museology, education, cultural tourism, and documentary filmmaking. This breadth distinguishes the association’s profile from a single event format. KUD performs around ten choreographies connected with the tradition of Turopolje, as well as approximately 15 children’s choreographies featuring songs and dances from northwestern Croatia. Its repertoire therefore brings together a Turopolje tradition and songs and dances from northwestern Croatia; the choreographies form a specific part of the association’s broader profile.
The Jurjevske svečanosti cultural programme is associated with KUD Mičevec. Jurjevski customs and songs were part of Turopoljsko Jurjevo for decades. These historical connections add a longer-standing tradition to the picture of the association’s repertoire.
Events and Bus Connection
Formula Student Alpe Adria took place in 2024 and 2025 at the Bugatti-Rimac test track in Mičevec. The 2024 edition was intended to bring together international participants and young engineers and innovators from around the world. Admission to that edition was free for all visitors. If you are planning your stay around an event, check its date before making your travel plans.
Local bus line 13 connects Velika Gorica, Velika Mlaka, and Mičevec. If the line may be suitable for your plans, check the current timetable before travelling, as schedules can change. This is especially helpful if your arrival or onward journey depends on a specific time.
