Srebreno lies on the shore of Župa Bay. The beach, promenade and historic religious buildings give the place its varied character: its coastal setting shapes the views of the surrounding area, while its buildings and early references offer a sense of its history.

Beach and coastal landscape

The municipal maritime plan for 2024–2028 requires equal public access and no fees at Srebreno Beach. For this period, the programme also provides for beach cleaning, replenishing and levelling the gravel, and repairs to beach promenades after storms. These are planned measures. The plan also provides for seven hospitality terraces; operators and availability may change.

The plan lists sea kayaks, pedal boats and kayaks as categories designated for the beach. This information in the plan does not confirm that they are available every day. If any of these activities are important to you, check current availability in advance. This helps distinguish the planned offerings from the actual situation during your stay.

Srebreno is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. Its seaward-facing location is appreciated both from the sea and when looking out to sea. The promenade is a good choice for an evening stroll: the Župka statue depicts a woman carrying a basket on her way to the local green market. The Srebreno–Goričina–Kupari promenade is designated as a pedestrian route, adding a named route to this view of the coastal town.

History and nature in Srebreno

Srebreno is first mentioned in 1294. The Church of the Sacred Heart in Srebreno dates from 1912. The Chapel of St Nicholas dates back to the 16th century and is also known as St Ruže Limske or St Ruse. It belongs to the Madeško complex; municipal planning documents list it for preventive protection. The different names and construction dates give each religious building its own historical context.

Nature also features in descriptions of the area. A 2012 municipal planning document classifies Srebreno Bay as a turtle corridor within the national ecological network. If this status is important to your plans, confirm the current classification.

The regional perspective also includes a themed trail network: “Walking Paths of Župa dubrovačka” is 50 kilometres long and runs throughout the municipality. The Connecting Route links Župa dubrovačka with the Croatian Long Distance Trail towards Srđ above Dubrovnik and with the Heart of Konavle Trail. For specific outings, it is advisable to check local conditions, as conditions in the field may change.

Other historic places reveal different traces of the past. Goričina, between Kupari and Srebreno, was once a settlement and port; fragments of Roman amphorae, pottery and coins have been found there. Kupari is considered the oldest tourist resort in Župa, and its first hotel was built in 1920. Milling was historically important in Mlini; one of the former mills is still well preserved. The Church of Sv. Ilara is mentioned in the Dubrovnik Statute of 1272 and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1683.

This makes it possible to distinguish Srebreno’s coastal landscape and historic buildings from the trails and places in the wider destination. When deciding where to stay, the character of Srebreno is the main consideration; the regional trail network and the history of other places add context to Općina Župa Dubrovačka.
