Municipality of Lanišće: Nature, Churches and Bugarenje
Accommodation in Municipality of Lanišće
At the Korita spring, water flows into ten wooden troughs; next to them is a pond rich in plant and animal life. The Ćićarija also puts landscapes and activities in the foreground, while churches, Bugarenje and the ruins of Rašpor reveal further facets of the Municipality of Lanišće.
Nature and trails in the Ćićarija
The Ćićarija is sparsely populated and is known for excursions into unspoiled nature. Cool slopes and forests make it a peaceful retreat inland. The Ćićarija has numerous trails for hikers, walkers and cyclists. The Municipality of Lanišće’s tourism profile also focuses on active and sustainable tourism, including hiking, climbing and cycling. This makes room for a range of activities without any one of them defining the character of the area on its own.
From Brgudac, a footpath leads through forest with protected plants and animals to the Korita spring in 45 minutes. The Brgudac–Korita trekking tour takes about three hours and is classified as moderately difficult. When planning your time, it is helpful to distinguish between the two durations: the 45 minutes refers to the walk to the spring, while the approximate three hours refers to the trekking tour.
The resting area by the spring offers a view of the Učka massif. The wooden troughs and the nearby pond also make Korita interesting for visitors who want to observe the plant and animal life as well as enjoy the trail itself. The Na Koritima mountain hut near the spring offers weekend accommodation and a meal for hikers. Check the availability of the weekend offer before you arrive.
Churches, history and singing tradition
The parish church in Lanišće was built in 1927 on the site of an older church dating from 1609; its Renaissance bell tower has been preserved. Inside are a Gothic wooden crucifix and three marble altars, brought from Trieste Cathedral in 1928. The church therefore brings together several specific historical connections: the site of the older church, the Renaissance tower and the altars added later.
Documentation for the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Račja Vas dates back to 1580; its bell tower was built in 1586. The ruins of Rašpor Fortress on Gradina also reach far into the past: they reflect prehistoric settlement, followed by a Roman border fortification. The churches and fortress ruins offer different ways to explore the history of the area.
Bugarenje, a preserved singing tradition specific to the Ćićarija, is also part of the area’s cultural character. Since 1976, the women’s singing group from Lanišće has kept this tradition alive and performed in public. Bugarenje is therefore not only a subject of historical interest, but also a form of singing carried on through public performances.
