Jursici can be approached for travel planning through two themes: the Roveria circular route and the history of the Church of St. Francis. Roveria connects Jursici, Sv. Kirin and Cukrići in a circular route; the church tells the story of a 19th-century building and the baptism of Blessed Miroslav Bulešić. If you are looking for hotels in Jursici, you can use these highlights to weigh up cycling and historic churches for your stay.

Roveria: circular route and trail profile

Roveria connects Jursici, Sv. Kirin and Cukrići, then returns to Jursici. The route is 14.9 kilometres long: 8.6 kilometres are on gravel and 6.3 kilometres on asphalt. Gravel therefore makes up the longer section. When planning, you can consider the two surface types separately.

After Sv. Kirin, Roveria runs through fields and forests to Cukrići; the return to Jursici is uphill again. The route also leads to the Chapel of St. Quirinus. It passes through a preserved natural landscape, and its name derives from the Italian word for oak.

Roveria is considered easy and is suitable for families as well as trekking bikes, e-bikes and mountain bikes. The route length may change if the route is diverted; conditions should be checked before setting out. Therefore, check the current route and conditions before your ride.

Church history in Jursici

The parish church of St. Francis was built in 1874 and consecrated in 1875. Its bell tower is integrated into the building, stands 18 metres high and holds two bells. Blessed Miroslav Bulešić was baptised in this church. The annual feast of St. Francis, celebrated on 4 October, is also associated with it; you should check current details of the celebrations separately.

The history of the parish area goes back further: in the Middle Ages it was known as Sv. Kvirin; there was a fortress and a church there. After the plague of 1630, the area was resettled under Venetian rule by Croatian families from Dalmatia. The medieval history of the parish area and the 19th-century building history of the parish church thus meet here.

St. Quirinus also connects different historical periods. The Chapel of St. Quirinus on the Roveria route was built in 1730 on the site of an earlier early Christian basilica with a nave and two aisles. The Church of St. Quirinus is the surviving nave of a three-aisled early Christian basilica dating from the 6th century.
