Brčići offers several ways to plan your trip: designated cycling routes, the Montreo circular hiking trail, ponds and a traditional settlement. For planning your outings, the distinctions are specific: one route connects Tinjan and Karojba, Montreo is a circular hiking trail, and Od lokve do lokve focuses on ponds and springs.

Cycling and hiking trails

A designated cycling route passes through Brčići along a gravel section and continues towards Rajki. It connects the municipalities of Tinjan and Karojba. Both its course through Brčići and the connection between the municipalities are important features of this route.

The Montreo circular hiking trail (718) reaches Brčići via a gravel road and then heads towards Rajki. Along the way, it passes the Pajićka pond and continues to Jurići. Montreo therefore differs from the cycling routes in that it is a circular hiking trail and passes the locations named above.

Od lokve do lokve (615) is a cycling route that lets you experience historic rural life while visiting ponds and springs. Brčićeva is one of the ponds named on the route. Each restored pond has a rest stop for cyclists. This gives the route its own focus, alongside the connection between Tinjan and Karojba.

Ponds and settlement

Pajićka pond is considered one of the best-known and most attractive ponds in the Tinjan area. A local travel report from 2021 describes Lokva Pajićka as enclosed by a circular stone wall and mentions an iron gate and stone steps leading down to the water. According to local accounts based on residents’ statements, construction of the wall took more than five years and was completed in 1922.

Brčići is listed as a traditional rural settlement; much of its street layout and building structure has been preserved. A chapel shrine in Brčići is also listed as local cultural heritage. An unclassified road runs through the settlement to the hamlets of Travani, Jurići and Pajići. Road conditions can change; check them before setting out. The settlement, cultural heritage and routes offer different ways to enjoy your stay.

Culture in the wider destination of Općina Tinjan

The wider destination of Općina Tinjan offers further historical and cultural attractions, particularly in Tinjan itself. The Depiera House is a Baroque monument. Its projecting chimney dates from 1670; the Neoclassical arcaded entrance and the cistern date from 1820. The 18th-century parish church of Saints Simon and Judas Thaddeus is considered an example of late Baroque architecture in Istria. The cemetery church of the Holy Cross is much older: it was built in the 13th century in the Romanesque style. The visible remains of the older fortification wall include walled-in battlements dating from the 14th century. The buildings thus span the period from medieval traces to later historical eras.

A festival of Kosir knives and other blacksmithing crafts is held in Tinjan on the traditional feast day of Saint Simon, attracting blacksmiths from all over Istria. Dates and programme may vary; check the specific dates if you plan to time your trip to coincide with the festival. The International Prosciutto Fair in Tinjan brings together prosciutto from across Europe, with guided tastings, workshops, a sports programme and evening concerts. The tradition of producing high-quality smoked prosciutto is also preserved in the Tinjan area by numerous registered prosciutto producers.
