Guided rides and routes in Općina Matulji

In the wider destination of Općina Matulji, the Matuljicious Bike & Taste rides are recreational and educational activities that introduce local natural, historical and cultural features. The rides are led by licensed guides and include technical support. Information is provided in four languages at selected points. The programme structure may change between seasons, and individual schedules may vary. Check the dates before making a ride a firm part of your plans.

The route details for two regional routes also offer specific points of comparison. The Bike-and-Hike Route 119, “Od Golopusta do sup Šije,” starts in the centre of Vele Mune, is 15 kilometres long and climbs 240 metres. Route 113, “Mune i Žejane,” is a 37.5-kilometre circular route with a total elevation gain of 590 metres. It starts in Jušići and runs mostly on asphalt. This makes it possible to compare the distances and elevation gains; for Route 113, the mostly asphalt surface is also specified.

Folk festival and local cuisine

Dani Rupe is a traditional folk festival in Rupa. The festival marked 50 years of the ox-roasting tradition, which dates back to 1976. This gives the festival a specific historical connection.

For a taste of Rupa, there is Carpe Diem: the restaurant is especially known for grilled meat dishes and serves local specialities. Check current opening hours before visiting.

Culture in the wider destination of Općina Matulji

The Memorijalni centar Lipa pamti in Lipa opened in April 2015 at the site of an older memorial museum that was there from 1968 to 1989. Its exhibition interprets the history of the Second World War in the Liburnian Karst. In addition to Lipa, this area includes Pasjak, Rupa, Ĺ apjane and Brdce. Rupa is therefore part of the regional historical context covered by the exhibition.

The centre is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m.; it is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Suburban bus line 30 runs from Delta in central Rijeka to Lipa, its final stop. From there, an approximately 100-metre uphill walk leads to the centre. Parking is permitted nearby. Recheck opening hours and bus and parking information before your visit.

The carnival in the wider destination of Općina Matulji also has a set seasonal focus: it takes place in January and February, with the Zvončari Festival as its main event. The Zvončari are traditional carnival figures whose origins date back more than 500 years. If the carnival is relevant to your travel plans, check the dates for the programme in question.
