Zagore: Beach, Heritage and Trails
Accommodation in Zagore
Zagore offers several ways to plan a stay: Stupova Beach lies below the village, the Ljubo de Karina Gallery and studio are in the hamlet of Zagore, and there are several trails and routes associated with Zagore. Their specific differences can help you choose a focus for your trip: beach measurements and access options sit alongside rural architecture, a full-day hike and a classified mountain bike route. For your plans, check local access and trail conditions, rather than treating different activities as equivalent.
Stupova and access to the beach
Stupova Beach lies below Zagore. It is classified as a natural beach and is listed as 30 metres long, with an area of 600 square metres. From Velo selo, the beach is reached by a narrow path; check local trail conditions before walking. Stupova can also be reached by boat from Pod Brseč in the direction of Plomin. This access depends on sea conditions and local operations. The path and the boat are therefore different options, which you should assess according to conditions on site.
Rural heritage and the gallery in the hamlet of Zagore
Zagore is a protected ethnographic zone. The Zagore–Brseč rural complex includes the hamlets of Zagorje, Stepča, Franeli, Krsonji and Ivaniši; the complex is designated as a cultural and historical entity. Traditional buildings include stone farm buildings, covered terraces and semicircular fireplaces. The complex therefore encompasses several hamlets and different types of architecture, not just a single building.
The Ljubo de Karina Gallery and studio are in the hamlet of Zagore, next to the sculptor’s family home. The architectural and artistic complex displays works in progress and monumental stone sculptures. The local tourist organisation recommends a visit; check visiting arrangements in advance.
Hiking, cycling route and other trails
The Trebišća–Perun Trail runs near Zagore through Učka Nature Park. The 15-kilometre route is a full-day hike: it passes through well-preserved hamlets and reaches the 880-metre-high summit of Perun. Thirteen information panels introduce Slavic mythology and the arrival of the early Slavs. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The Sveta Jelena–Zagore route is classified as a mountain bike route and is 23.6 kilometres long. Its classification may change if the infrastructure is revised; check the current route markings on site. Another route runs between Mošćenice, Zagore and Brseč. Trail conditions and signage may change, so check both locally. Sisol can be approached from Zagore via a forest road. For your planning, the distinction between the designated route types is useful: Trebišća–Perun is a full-day hike, while the Sveta Jelena–Zagore route is classified as a mountain bike route.
