Lun combines an expansive olive landscape with distinctive landmarks from the village’s history. Two highlights can help you choose Lun as a destination: the olive groves, with their trails and visitor experiences, and the chapel, church ruins, and historic remains.

Olive Groves and Botanical Features

Lun’s olive groves encompass around 80,000 wild olive trees across approximately 400 hectares. They include roughly 1,500 notable wild olive trees. The area was declared a botanical reserve in 1963. Another distinctive feature is the wild olive species found in Lun, Olea oleaster linea, which is considered an exceptionally rare Mediterranean woodland species. Taken together, these figures convey the extent of the groves, while the reserve status and rare species describe their botanical significance.

Trails, Visits, and Tours

The olive groves offer tours of the protected area in electric vehicles. If you’d like to explore the trails on foot, you’ll find gravel paths stretching for more than 7,000 meters. The two options offer different experiences: a visit in an electric vehicle or exercise on paths designed for walking. A reception desk serves as an information point for the site. The program also includes individual, private, and group tours. The information point can help you find your way around the site before you consider the various options available for your visit.

The visitor experience also has a connection to local produce: it includes olive oil and food products made with olives and figs. Products made with these two ingredients complement the trails and tour programs as another part of what the olive groves offer.

Chapel, Church Ruins, and Local History

The Chapel of Our Lady of Health stands at the entrance to the village. Its location marks a specific point on the approach to the village. Near Punta Luna are the ruins of the Church of St. Martin. They can be reached on foot and offer a view of the sea. In Tovarnele, the remains of a former tavern have been preserved; it also served as a defense against pirates. These sites represent different aspects of the area’s history and character: a chapel at the village entrance, church ruins with a sea view, and the remains of a building with a documented defensive role.

October 2 is associated with the Day of the Holy Guardian Angels, which is considered a long-standing family celebration in Lun. Program details may vary. The celebration is a different cultural point of interest from the permanent chapel, church ruins, and historic remains.

Travel via Tovarnele

Ferry connections link Rab with Lun via the port of Tovarnele. Check schedules and seasonal services before your trip. Tovarnele is thus both part of the ferry connection and the location of the remains of the former tavern. When deciding whether Lun is the right destination for your trip, you can consider nature, village history, and the connection to Rab as distinct aspects.
