Košljun on the southern side of Pag
Accommodation in Košljun
Košljun on the coast of Pag
Košljun lies on the southern side of the island of Pag in a naturally sheltered bay and is considered a small harbour. The coast includes pebble and sandy beaches. The landscape provides a concrete framework for choosing a hotel: the harbour, bay and beach define the character of the coast. Protected areas, routes and archaeological traces add nature, activity and history to the picture. This makes it possible to consider Košljun as a destination from several factual perspectives.
Natura 2000 sites
The Košljun planning area lies within the Natura 2000 site Košljunski zaljev (HR3000042), a protected area under the Habitats Directive. It also lies within the Natura 2000 bird protection area HR1000023 (SZ Dalmacija i Pag). Both a habitat site and a bird protection area are therefore relevant as distinct conservation perspectives for the planning area.
The Natura 2000 site Košljunski zaljev covers 285.03 hectares and consists entirely of marine area. It protects two habitat types under the Habitats Directive. The bird protection area HR1000023 lists 65 species under the nature conservation directives. This distinction is important for orientation: the area and marine character relate to Košljunski zaljev, while the species figure relates to the bird protection area. This makes it possible to attribute the information to the respective sites.
Beach and routes
For Plaža Košljun beach, the City of Pag's beach concession plan for 2024 listed the rental of windsurf boards, sun loungers and parasols. The overview refers to that plan year. If you are planning to use any of these services during a later stay, check availability in advance.
The Put Starog grada Paga route, designated Kš1, is 4.8 km long, linear, easy and has a gravel surface. Length, route type, difficulty rating and surface address different planning questions: they describe distance, route layout, difficulty and terrain. Conditions may change; check them before setting out.
The Stari grad–Košljun route is also designated as a cycling route. The type of information is key to making a comparison: for Put Starog grada Paga Kš1, the focus is on length, difficulty and surface; Stari grad–Košljun is explicitly identified as a cycling route. This helps you distinguish whether you are looking for a route based on its specific profile or its designated mode of travel.
Archaeological traces and orientation
The remains of the destroyed prehistoric hillfort of Stagnica (Kruna) lie in the immediate vicinity of the Košljun planning area. This archaeological connection adds a historical layer to the coastal and natural perspectives. The natural environment and the hillfort thus represent different aspects of the surrounding area: protected habitats on the one hand and prehistoric remains on the other.
Košljun's main street (GMU) is a section of the existing local road L63005. A specific road name therefore also helps with orientation in the village.
