In the Municipality of Povljana, you can discover a wetland for birdwatching, a variety of beaches and diverse cycling routes. Churches and the annual Klapa gathering add a cultural dimension to the natural and coastal attractions. You can identify the stops that interest you most by looking at the specific differences between the places and routes.

Veliko blato and birdwatching

The Veliko blato bird reserve is a refuge for a wide variety of waterbirds, especially during the breeding, migration and wintering seasons. There is a birdwatching tower and an information board at the reserve. To date, 143 bird species have been recorded at Veliko blato. If you are planning a visit, you can combine birdwatching from the tower with a look at the information board.

Veliko blato is 2 km from Povljana, on the paved road from Povljana to Vlašići. Before visiting, check the current condition of the facilities and local access conditions.

Beaches with different features

Perilo is a sandy beach with shallow water, suitable for water sports and especially for picigin. Livade is also a sandy beach, with very shallow water; the beach is suitable for families with small children. If you are looking for shallow water, both beaches are worth considering, while Perilo is also specifically associated with water sports.

Mali Dubrovnik is a pebble beach on the Viverone promenade. There is a changing cabin and a shower. As beach facilities may change seasonally, check before your visit whether both are currently available. There is a water park and pedal boat rental at Dubrovnik Beach; here too, it is worth checking availability in advance.

Lake Segal lies west of Povljana, next to Dubrovnik Beach. Walking trails lead through the forest behind the lake.

Cycling routes between the peninsula, bay and karst

Four of the 14 cycling routes that cross the island of Pag are in the Municipality of Povljana. The routes pass through different landscapes: the Prutna cycling route runs along the rocky ridge of the Prutna peninsula and offers views of Stara Povljana Bay. The Smokvica cycling route begins 1 km from Povljana, on the road to Stara Povljana Bay, and ends in the fishing village of Smokvica.

The Vidikovac viewpoint is on the road from Povljana towards Prutna. From there, you can see the town and its surroundings. Another cycling route heads towards Old Pag, passing salt pans, and is used by pilgrims from Povljana on the Assumption pilgrimage. Another cycling route passes through a small wood by Lake Segal and continues northeast through karst terrain. As route conditions may change, check the current route before setting out.

Churches, Klapa gathering and summer breeze

The Church of St. Martin is a particularly valuable monument of medieval architecture. The parish church of St. George was built in 1765. The Klapa gathering “Povljana u pismi” has been held every year since 2002 in early July, in front of the church in St. George’s Square. Specific dates and the programme vary.

The summer Maestral is another local condition that may be useful to consider when planning an active day. It is considered suitable for windsurfers; when it picks up in the afternoon, it allows for faster windsurfing. Wind conditions vary from day to day.
