Tribunj combines a historic island old town with coastal scenery and local traditions. This offers several perspectives for planning your trip: the town’s architectural history, cultural events and its role as a stop on EuroVelo 8. If you are looking for hotels in Tribunj, these highlights can help you decide what kind of stay you would like.

Townscape, History and Culture

The historic town centre lies on a small island connected to the mainland by a stone bridge. Compact houses and narrow lanes shape the character of the town. Remains of the defensive walls of Jurjevgrad have survived; the walls were built in the mid-17th century during Venetian rule. The Church of St Nicholas stands on a hill above Tribunj, on the site of the former Jurjevgrad fortress. It dates from the 15th century.

On Good Friday, a night-time procession makes its way around the peninsula; this local tradition has been observed since 1935. The traditional donkey races are also considered a cultural and tourist event. At the 51st edition, a procession went from Zamalin Beach to Pijaca Square. The Tribunj cultural association operates from renovated rooms in the old church. Its cultural programmes include a library, an internet centre and a children’s playground.

Coast and Cycling Route

Plava plaĹľa stretches for four kilometres between Tribunj and Vodice as a pebble beach. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag; check its status again for the current season. Beach conditions may also change seasonally.

EuroVelo 8 enters Tribunj via Put Sovlja and leaves the town via Put Vodica. On the Pakoštane–Šibenik section, Tribunj is a place to stock up on supplies and rest; local beaches are among the options for a break. The two street names give cyclists specific guidance on the route through Tribunj.

The municipality’s landscape extends beyond the built-up town: its deeply indented coastline includes five small islets. The municipal area also features wooded heights approaching 200 metres, as well as maquis, Mediterranean forests, olive groves and vineyards. Logorun, an island in the Šibenik archipelago, lies opposite Tribunj.

Local Traditions and Getting There

Fishing and olive growing are among the local traditions. Fish specialities are associated with Tribunj’s taverns and restaurants. Ribarska noć is a traditional gastronomic event held at the end of July. Check the dates before your trip if you would like to plan around the event.

By car, you can reach Tribunj from the A1 via the Pirovac exit, roads 59 and 8, and then a turnoff towards the town. Check road conditions and signs before setting out. This lets you weigh up the town’s historical highlights, the coastal stretch and the cycling route for your trip, without treating these distinct highlights as interchangeable.
