Discover Blaca: History and Trails
Accommodation in Blaca
Blaca brings together prehistoric traces, churches, and trails. For trip planning, two main themes can be distinguished: local history and activities by bike or on foot. Local heritage ranges from prehistoric settlement to buildings from different eras; the route descriptions give specific distances and landmarks.
Historical Traces and Churches
Blaca has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The largest and best-preserved tumulus is located on Umac. It sits at an elevation of about 483 meters, measures around 17 meters in diameter, and is about 3 meters high. A tumulus is a burial mound; in this example, its height and diameter give a concrete sense of the archaeological feature's size.
In the hamlet of Blaca, behind Kozjak, stands the Church of Gospe od Zdravlja. It was probably built shortly before or after the First World War. About 100 meters east of the church are three stone houses dating from the late Middle Ages, probably from the 15th or 16th century. The church and group of houses therefore provide historical reference points from different eras.
Near Blaca, on Kozjak, stands the Church of St. George at an elevation of 677 meters. It is associated with an old cemetery containing stećak tombstones, linked to the people of Blaca. This gives the church a different historical significance from Gospe od Zdravlja: at St. George, the cemetery and tombstones are central, while Gospe od Zdravlja is notable for its location in the hamlet and its probable construction date.
A Mass is celebrated at Gospe od Zdravlja on the Feast of Our Lady of Health. If you are planning your trip around this occasion, check the exact date of the feast in advance.
Cycling and Walking Trails
The “Blaca” cycling route starts at Širina Park in Solin and follows the riverside path along the Jadro, through Rupotine and Ninčevići, to the village of Blaca. It is 9.50 kilometers long and has three rest stops, including one in Blaca. The sequence of the park, riverside path, and named places provides specific landmarks for following the route. Check trail conditions and local infrastructure before setting out.
A hiking route from Vrata kod vrha Ĺ krabutina to Blaca is about 1.34 kilometers long. The Solinski planinarski put lists Prijevoj Blaca, at an elevation of 525 meters, as its seventh checkpoint. The details serve different purposes: the first gives the starting point, destination, and distance; the second identifies the pass as a checkpoint on a named hiking trail.
The distances offer a straightforward comparison for planning: the cycling route is listed as 9.50 kilometers long, the hiking route is about 1.34 kilometers, while Prijevoj Blaca is identified as a checkpoint at an elevation of 525 meters.
