Solin: Discover Antiquity, Jadro and Culture
Accommodation in Solin
Solin combines ancient and early Christian heritage with hiking and cycling opportunities and cultural events. If you are looking for hotels in Solin, first consider what you would like to shape your stay: archaeological sites, the visitor facilities at the Jadro, a particular route, or a cultural programme. The locations and activities each have their own character and offer different points of reference for planning your trip.
Salona, Manastirine and Gospin otok
The ancient city of Salona is associated with Solin. Its remains include city walls with towers and gates, a forum with temples, an amphitheatre, and martyrs’ cemeteries at Manastirine, Kapljuč and Marusinac. These sites illustrate different aspects of the ancient heritage, from fortifications and public buildings to burial grounds.
The Tusculum Museum is located near Manastirine, a well-maintained and excavated complex for visitors interested in Salona’s antiquities. Tusculum was built for the First Congress of Christian Archaeology, held in Solin and Split in 1894. Gospin otok, in turn, is a Marian shrine on the riverbank. It is associated with the churches of Queen Jelena from the 10th century; archaeological remains lie beneath the present-day church. There is a well-maintained lawn next to the shrine.
Visitor facilities and nature at the Jadro
The Izletište Jadro recreation area includes a visitor centre with a trout farm, an interpretation centre, a nature trail, a playground and a bocce court. A tactile path leads to the visitor centre. A platform-assisted route provides access to all facilities for people with reduced mobility. At the Jadro, therefore, the visitor offer includes both specific facilities and explicitly described accessibility infrastructure.
The Solinka is also one of the area’s important natural features: it is endangered and strictly protected, and fishing is prohibited. Anyone interested in the river and its surroundings should observe this protection measure.
Hiking and cycling
The 9.5-kilometre Izvor Ĺľivota themed hiking trail is a circular route connecting the Jadro source with Mravince and KuÄŤine. Another hiking route is the Solinski planinarski put. It is considered relatively long and challenging, and is intended for experienced hikers. It is not suitable for beginners, families with children or occasional recreational walkers. This clear restriction is important when choosing a route.
There is also a cycling route called Ratnici povijesti. It runs from the Salona amphitheatre via Put Voljaka and Kaštel Sućurac and back to the amphitheatre. This distinguishes the different ways to get around: a circular hiking route with a specified length, a challenging hiking route, and a cycling route. Details of the routes and their difficulty offer different points of reference for planning your own trip.
Cultural events in Solin

The Solin Cultural Summer features a series of music and theatre performances, as well as other performances and activities. This event period runs from early July to early September.
