Vinjerac
Accommodation in Vinjerac
If you’re looking for hotels in Vinjerac, two themes provide a useful starting point: a stay on the coast and a protected historic urban ensemble.
Coast, Water and Activities
The sea off Vinjerac is considered calm and clear; seasonal conditions may vary. The long, shallow coastal area is considered suitable for recreational and professional diving. During the season, the beach is considered peaceful and relaxing. When planning your trip, you can consider beach tranquility and suitability for diving as separate criteria: the calm conditions are explicitly seasonal, while the coastal area is described as suitable for recreational and professional diving. The Vinjerac area also offers opportunities for seaside walks, excursions and boat trips to nearby islands. Local customs and life in a fishing village are also among the things visitors can discover.
Historic Ensemble and Archaeological Traces
Vinjerac is listed in the Croatian Register of Protected Cultural Heritage as the historic ensemble “Kulturno-povijesna cjelina naselja Vinjerac” (Register No. Z-4948). The listing dates from November 23, 2010. On Oraška Hill, also known as Lergova gradina, there are archaeological remains attributed to a prehistoric Liburnian site. These include burial mounds, caves, and the foundations of prehistoric and ancient walls, buildings and an acropolis. The cultural heritage can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: the protected context of the historic ensemble and the specific archaeological features on the hill.
Wider Context: Općina Posedarje
Općina Posedarje lies on the coast of Novigradsko more and is bordered by Podvelebitski kanal, Masleničko ždrilo and Novigradsko more. The A1 runs through the municipal area and forms part of the Adriatic–Ionian Corridor. The Posedarje interchange is an important link toward Ražanac and the island of Pag.
There are numerous cycling routes in the area of Općina Posedarje, considered a challenge for active holidaymakers. Check route details and conditions locally.
The cultural attractions of Općina Posedarje also include two churches in Posedarje. The Church of Saint Mary is a medieval, single-nave building constructed on the site of an earlier Romanesque structure. The Church of Holy Spirit, also single-naved, dates from the 12th century and stands on a small island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. The building history of one church and the other’s dated island location offer different historical points of reference.
The Fešta od ribe i vina is also held annually in Posedarje. At this fish and wine festival, grilled fish caught by local fishermen and a wide selection of local wines are served. Check the event dates before your trip.
