A trip to Ebberup can appeal to a range of interests: the coastal landscape at Sønderby Klint, fishing at Sønderby Sø, the history of Sønderby Kirke and Hagenskov Gods, and football golf. If you are looking for a hotel in Ebberup, you can first consider whether nature, historical topics or an active pastime will shape your stay. The outdoor options differ particularly clearly: at the cliff, it is about a hike with elevation changes; at the lake, it is about fishing at designated spots.

Nature and fishing

The coastal route at Sønderby Klint is about 3 km long and offers a hike through hilly terrain; its highest point is almost 30 metres above sea level. The length and elevation profile describe different aspects of the route: the approximate distance gives an indication of its scope, while the terrain and highest point give a sense of its relief. Deposits from three glaciers dating to the Weichselian glaciation can also be seen at Sønderby Klint. Those interested in geology can also view the area from this perspective: alongside hiking, the glacial landscape is a point of interest. There are tables and benches at a car park near Sønderby Klint where you can eat food you have brought with you.

Fishing is permitted from a fishing platform at Sønderby Sø and along a marked stretch of the shore. The two spots differ in form: in addition to the platform, a specific section of shore is designated for fishing. There are benches at the platform. You can park at Sønderby Kirke or along the roadside next to the lake.

Church history and Hagenskov Gods

Sønderby Kirke in Ebberup dates back to an original Romanesque church from the 13th century. A later, clearly dated episode in its history is associated with 26 May 1939: the von Trapp family sang in the church at Dagmar Dreyer’s wedding. This places the early history of the building alongside a single cultural occasion. The church thus offers two historical perspectives: its Romanesque origins and the 20th-century event.

The present-day Hagenskov Gods was built in 1775 in the new Neoclassical style by its owner, Niels Ryberg, under the direction of city architect G.E. Rosenberg. Its heritage protection history comprises two separate steps: in 1968, the castle was protected as a Class A national monument; in 1973, full protection followed for all of Hagenskov Gods, including all associated land. The castle can be viewed from the public road that runs through the estate. Otherwise, there is no public access; visitors are received by appointment.

Football golf and suggested route

In Ebberup, Vestfyns Fodboldgolf offers an 18-hole football golf course. The holes have varying levels of difficulty, and the course is designed to allow people to take part regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. Football golf is therefore an active alternative to hiking at Sønderby Klint: one activity takes you through hilly terrain, while the other takes place on a course with varying levels of difficulty.

The suggested route “Rundt om Hagenskov” passes through Ebberup to Sønderby Kirke. If you include it in your plans, check the current route before setting out, as route details may change.
