For your trip to Sædballe, the moorland of Sædballe Fredmose, birdwatching and the coast near Fredmose take centre stage. There is also a fishing spot with seasonal features, activities along the coast and a historical focus. This allows you to plan excursions around nature watching in the moor, time on the coast and a look at the area’s history as distinct themes.

Moorland and birdwatching

A ridge of Langeland’s hat hills extends into Sædballe Fredmose from the south, offering views across the moor. The southern hat hill rise is particularly striking, jutting like a peninsula into the southern part of the moor. From there, you can observe birds without disturbing them. The elevated viewpoint and the view of the birdlife offer two distinct perspectives: one of the moor as a landscape, and one of life in this area. The carnivorous plant bladderwort also grows in Sædballe Fredmose. This adds a specific plant species to the nature theme; its abundance can vary.

Coastal activities near Fredmose

The pétanque court near Fredmose is located at the end of Paradisvej, right by the coast. There are several picnic table sets at the court. The playground with sea views near Fredmose is also at the end of Paradisvej, right by the coast. Its facilities include swings, a sandbox, a seesaw and a small slide. This puts two different coastal offerings in the spotlight: a pétanque court with seating and a playground with several specified pieces of equipment. Facilities may change; if any particular feature is important to your plans, check the current situation before your visit.

Fishing in different seasons

The fishing spot “Fredmose – Havørred Fyn Hotspot nr. 55” is on the beach south of Fredmose, near Bovballe Skov. Mullet may be found there in summer; in winter, freshwater can attract sea trout. The information thus varies by season and fish species: in summer, it concerns the possible presence of mullet, while in winter, it concerns the possibility of attracting sea trout. If you are planning when to visit, this seasonal distinction offers a specific point of reference.

Local history and coastal life

Sædballe was first mentioned in 1237. Another historical point of interest is Garnhuset ved Østerskov: a reconstructed former net house dating from 1920, which houses a small exhibition about the local population and their life on the coast. The first mention provides a date in the area’s history; the exhibition focuses on life on the coast. Together, they offer two distinct approaches to history, without covering the same period or subject.
