Røjle: Discover the Coast, Cliffs and Trails
Accommodation in Røjle
Røjle is a destination for travelers who want to put coastal scenery and geological features at the heart of their visit. Røjle Klint combines views from above with the beach below the cliff, where fossils can be found. Other useful points for planning include the approximately four-kilometer-long Strandstien/Kærlighedsstien, the Røjle-Mose trail and the landscape of Kasmose Skov. Depending on whether you are more interested in coastal views, rocks or different biotopes, different aspects of the area come to the fore.
Cliffs, Coast and Fossils
Røjle Klint lies on the Little Belt and is up to 45 meters high. You can enjoy the coastal views from above; fossils can be found on the beach below the cliff. This gives you two perspectives on the coast: the view from above and the opportunity to look for fossil traces on the beach. The clay at Røjle Klint contains fossils and minerals, including shark teeth, whale bones, selenite and phosphorite. This combination also makes the cliff geologically interesting.
Geology and Landscape
There are open coastal slopes at Røjle Klint. A marine foreland with beach ridges and nutrient-rich fens has developed in front of the cliff. Røjle Klint and Kasmose Skov are part of Natura 2000 site No. 111. The landscape of Røjle Mose also documents a geological history stretching back to the Weichselian glaciation. Røjle Klint contains moraine clay, glacial meltwater sand and black volcanic ash; these materials formed millions of years ago.
Kasmose Skov grows on steep slopes that consist partly of plastic clay. The forest was designated as untouched forest in 1993. Kasmose Skov therefore brings both the sloping landscape and a clearly dated forest status into focus.
Trails and Practical Information
Strandstien/Kærlighedsstien runs from Strib Fyr/Ved Nordenbro to Røjle Klint and is about four kilometers long. For the final 2.8 kilometers, you can choose between the beach and a paved road. The Røjle-Mose trail passes through various bio- and geotopes and is intended for pedestrians. The routes therefore have different focuses: on the Strandstien, the choice of surface matters on a particular section, while the Røjle-Mose trail highlights the variety of bio- and geotopes.
Hunting may lead to temporary closures on the Røjle-Mose trail; check the current status before your visit. The former Røjle railway line has also been preserved as a recreational trail. It complements the nature and geology themes with a local connection to the former railway.
For your journey, the Røjle Klint parking lot has space for 5 to 8 passenger cars. The Kasmose Skov parking lot has space for 25 to 30 passenger cars; its stated capacity is higher. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Røjle, you can plan around whichever interests matter most to you: coastal views, geology or trails through varied landscapes.
