Morud: Paths, Forest and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Morud
Bus and Cycling Routes
Morud has a direct city bus connection to Odense. As bus routes can change, check the current timetable before travelling. Cycling routes from Morud lead to Veflinge and Søndersø, as well as to the Bredbjerg residential area near the municipal boundary with Odense. Conditions on cycling routes can also change; check them locally. For planning purposes, the bus connection is relevant for a trip to Odense, while the cycling routes lead to three named destinations.
Langesø: Forest and Ice Age Landscape
Nearby is Langesø, a narrow lake 1.3 kilometres long in the heart of a forest and castle area. A 3-kilometre path runs around the lake through an Ice Age landscape, with giant fir trees and views of the castle. Langesøskoven is also home to giant Douglas firs and California redwoods. The 1.3 kilometres refers to the length of the lake, while the 3 kilometres refers to the path around it. Langesø formed at the end of the last Ice Age, when a large flow of meltwater carved deeply into the terrain, forming what is known as a tunnel valley.
Chapel and Mill
The nearby Langesø Skovkapel was built in 1870 as a castle chapel and a church for local residents. Tours can be arranged by appointment with the parish priest. Tværskov Mølle is a listed watermill dating from 1730; it operated as a mill until 1950. As the buildings are privately owned, they can only be viewed from the road. The chapel and the mill represent different historical functions: religious use on the one hand and milling on the other.
Activities and Their Conditions
A day pass or an annual pass is required for the nearby Langesø MTB trail. Ditlevsdal Bison Farm offers guided bison safaris throughout the year. Depending on how many questions are asked, a safari lasts about 45 to 55 minutes and takes place in an open-sided, covered wagon; check tour dates and arrangements before your trip. Langesø Golf has an 18-hole woodland course in natural surroundings by a beautiful lake.
Outdoor Swimming Pool and Shelter
Morud Friluftsbad is open from 5 June to 31 August and offers swimming, games and sociable time in the sun. Unlike the guided bison safaris, which are offered year-round, visits to the outdoor pool are seasonal. Check the pool’s current opening schedule before your visit. The shelter near Morud cannot be reserved and is used on a first-come, first-served basis. This means you cannot plan a place in advance. It has a fire pit with a grill grate and a nearby toilet. As conditions of use and facilities can change, check them before your visit.
