Frørup combines a centrally located church and a long village history with two walking trails. Regisse Kilde is also part of the local cultural heritage: it plays a role in a centuries-old St John’s Eve tradition and is depicted in a gable painting on the old smithy. When looking for a hotel, it may help to consider whether you are mainly interested in village history, the landscape along the trails, or both.

Village history and character

Frørup is documented in written sources from 1231 under the name “Frøthorp”. Frørup Church dates from 1190 and stands in the centre of the village. Numerous farmsteads have moved out of the village, significantly changing its appearance; nevertheless, Frørup remains clustered around the church to this day. The church therefore shapes not only the centre but also the village’s still-compact layout. If you are interested in historic village settings, you will find a combination here of church architecture, written records and changes to the settlement pattern.

Regisse Kilde and other heritage sites

Regisse Kilde is a holy spring near Frørup, believed to have healing powers on St John’s Eve. People have made pilgrimages to the spring on this evening for centuries. To reach it, use the car park in front of Regissevej 2A and walk the last approximately 600 m. Check access information before your visit, as details may change.

There are two gable paintings on the old smithy that tell the story of the village’s cultural heritage. The first depicts the story of Regisse Kilde. Stendysse ved Frørup is located in the countryside between Frørup and Svindinge, on Regissevej between house numbers 7 and 9. The spring, wall paintings and dolmen offer different ways to explore the local heritage.

The SPOR Kongshøj Ådal walking route runs between Frørup and Tårup along Kongshøj Å. It passes through a glacial tunnel valley with a babbling stream and grazing cows. The heights around the valley offer beautiful views of the surrounding area. For the yellow route, the approximate distance and markings are clear points of reference; SPOR is characterised by its route along Kongshøj Å and the tunnel valley landscape. You can distinguish between the two trails based on whether a known distance or the valley and stream scenery matters most to you.

Bicycle service and winery

The Bike Station in Frørup is a free mini-workshop. You can inflate tyres, change inner tubes and carry out minor bicycle repairs there. Nearby, there are tables and benches, as well as access to a toilet and drinking water. Facilities may change, so check the information before using them.

Frørup Vingård is an organically farmed winery. It produces white wine, rosé and sparkling wine using the French method, and sells its wines in its own farm shop. The selection may change, so check it if you are planning to buy something. The winery adds another specific aspect to a stay in Frørup, complementing its cultural heritage and walking trails.
