When planning a trip to Vestbjerg, you’ll find a range of topics to consider: nature and marked trails in the surrounding area, rules for dogs, the history of the Kirkecenter, and activities organised by FDF Vestbjerg for children and young people. If you’re looking for a hotel in Vestbjerg, it helps to first decide which of these priorities matters most for your stay.

Nature and Climate Park and Trails in Hammer Bakker

At the southern end of Vestbjerg, Vestbjerg Nature and Climate Park is located on the site of a former sports field. The park includes several small lakes and ponds. As a recreational natural area, it aims to create better conditions for nature and increase biodiversity. It therefore combines recreational use with a nature-development goal.

In the area around Vestbjerg, there is public land in Hammer Bakker that can be accessed via marked trails. When planning your visit, you can therefore distinguish between a focus on trails and the park’s landscape.

With a Dog: Listing and Rules

The Municipality of Aalborg’s list, updated on 11 December 2025, includes Vestbjerg among its 15 dog forests. The municipality generally describes dog forests as small or large fenced areas where law-abiding, obedient dogs can be walked off leash.

In Aalborg Municipality, dogs must be kept on a leash in the countryside. On public beaches, dogs may run off leash under control from 1 October to 31 March. This exception does not apply throughout the countryside. Check the signs at each location, as specific restrictions may apply at individual sites.

History and Glass Mosaics at the Kirkecenter

The Vestbjerg Kirkecenter was inaugurated on 21 March 1982. It was designed for church services, meetings, confirmation classes and other related activities. A new church room was added in 1999 and used for the first time on 13 February 2000. The chronology marks two stages: the inauguration of the Kirkecenter and the later addition of the church room.

The Kirkecenter houses a series of glass mosaics depicting the story of Noah’s Ark. Third-grade pupils, also known as mini-confirmands, created them together with glass artists Britta Madsen and Søren Gøttrup from Støvring. Both the subject of the series and the way it was created collaboratively are therefore part of the cultural history of the place.

Activities at FDF Vestbjerg

FDF Vestbjerg offers leisure activities for children and young people, such as building huts and obstacle courses, exploring nature, campfires, outings and camps. Participation is organised through the local group. If you include these activities in your travel plans, also take into account that they are organised through FDF.
