Jammerbugt Municipality: Beaches, Routes and Culture
Accommodation in Jammerbugt Municipality
Jammerbugt offers wide sandy beaches, dune landscapes, forests and trails that make room for both tranquillity and activities. When looking for a hotel in Jammerbugt Municipality, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: beaches and water sports, marked routes, nature or culture. The places and experiences below offer some concrete ideas.
Beaches and Water Sports
The northern coast of Jammerbugt consists of sandy beaches with good swimming facilities, including Slettestrand, Grønhøj, Svinkløv, Tranum, Rødhus and Blokhus. Sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding are all possible in Jammerbugt. At Slettestrand beach, you can walk on the white sand, stroll along the water, ride in the dunes or do yoga. Blokhus is one of the few places in Denmark where visitors are allowed to drive on the beach.
Cycling Routes, Hiking Trails and Outdoor Planning
A marked mountain bike route in Slettestrand is 21 kilometres long; the Tranum-Fosdal hiking loop is 11 kilometres. It goes over Bavnehøj, the highest point in Jammerbugt, then continues via Ingeborgs Bakker to Fosdalen, returning along the top edge of Lien through Langdalen. This gives you a choice of two routes of different lengths and for different ways of getting around. Kystsporet is a 157-kilometre cycling and hiking route through the coastal landscapes of Jammerbugt and Thy. Opening times and facilities may change seasonally; check the latest information before planning your trip.
Blokhus Gateway is a starting point for several hiking and cycling routes, as well as a nearby mountain bike route, a fitness route and a running trail. There is also a nature playground, an activity area, picnic and barbecue spots, and a nature oven where you can bake your own bread. The Udinaturen outdoor portal brings together marked routes, nature playgrounds, fire pits and opportunities for outdoor overnight stays in Jammerbugt.
Nature and Landscapes
Fosdalen has been protected since 1902. Svinkløv Klitplantage features chalk, glacial deposits and a layer of windblown sand above them. From the cliffs at Svinklovene, the view stretches far across Slettestrand. Store Vildmose is a distinctive type of natural environment that has been preserved in only a few places in Denmark. Visitors can experience the area from spots with information boards, artworks, boardwalks and picnic facilities; facilities may be updated.
