Trails and landscape around Hellevad
The Hellevad Rundt project features several marked hiking and running routes in the area around Hellevad. The blue route is 5.5 kilometres long and is also suitable for running, while the 8-kilometre green route is suitable for cycling. Two specific points can therefore help you choose: route length and the activity recommended. The hiking trails in and around Hellevad are also intended for walkers, runners, and people using strollers and wheelchairs. If you use different modes of transport, you can take this range of users into account alongside the specific route length when planning.
The landscape around Hellevad includes open spaces, waterways and forest. The forest paths near Hellevad pass the old Helligkilde. If you like to include a named landmark along your route, you will find a specific point of interest there; Helligkilde is also part of the wooded surroundings.
The watercourse of the Surbæk has been restored at Hellevad Watermill. The green route follows Vandmøllevej past the mill; you can also follow the stream to the old Hellevad Watermill. At the watermill, both a connection to a named route and the watercourse itself are central features.
Church and places to spend time
Hellevad Church is a whitewashed, tiled-roof church in the meadows west of Hellevad. Inside is a Gothic winged altarpiece from the last quarter of the 15th century. Its exterior, location and historic artwork offer three distinct aspects to a visit: you can appreciate the church as a building, note its location west of the village and take in the altarpiece as a late-medieval detail.
Access to the church can be arranged by appointment on Saturdays and Sundays. Please make arrangements before your visit.
Gustes Eng, a place to spend time with shelters, a fire pit, seating and an outdoor stage, is located in the centre of Hellevad. If you do not want to plan your visits solely around hiking trails, this spot offers another specific place to visit in the centre. Its facilities combine covered areas and seating with a fire pit and an outdoor stage.
Hellevad Open Air is organised by dedicated volunteers. If the festival is the reason for your trip, check the specific event dates before making plans.
On the Hellevad–Hvid route, the toilet building at the cemetery can be used; check that it is available before setting out.
