Discover Bredsten: Trails, wind and history on Kegnæs
Accommodation in Bredsten
If you are looking for a hotel in Bredsten, you can plan your stay around the trails, coastal activities and historical sites on Kegnæs. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the circular route around Bredsten from the walking trails on the peninsula. There are also different conditions for water sports and fishing, as well as a bus connection with a dated timetable.
Walking and landscape
The Kegborg–Kegnæs Ende route is a 6-kilometre circular walk around Bredsten. There are also three marked walking trails on Kegnæs. These are two different points of reference when making your choice: the circular walk focuses on a single route with a specified length, while the three marked trails offer a selection across the peninsula. Markings and trail conditions can change, so check the latest information before setting off.
Kegnæs is a flat moraine hill formed during the last Ice Age. At 10 metres above sea level, Kegnæshøj is the highest point on Kegnæs. These details describe the landscape both geologically and in terms of a specific elevation point.
Water sports and fishing
On the south side of Kegnæs, Bredsten is an option for kiteboarding and windsurfing. Whether conditions are suitable depends on the weather and wind. At the end of the peninsula, Kegnæs Ende is a fishing spot overlooking the outer Flensburg Fjord; fishing conditions vary. The activities therefore have different considerations: wind and weather matter for water sports, while fishing depends on changing conditions at the spot.
History on Kegnæs
At Drejet, the remains of the Kegborg defensive tower are located in the starting area of the Kegnæsstien trail. The first lighthouse on Kegnæs was built in 1845. Kegnæs Fyr has been restored and set up as a small museum, with display cases about the history of the lighthouse. When the weather is not too foggy or stormy, Kegnæs Fyr offers a free 360-degree panoramic view. Check before your visit whether access is currently possible.
Kegnæs Kirke also offers specific historical points of interest: its foundation stone was laid on 24 June 1615, while the altarpiece dates from around 1450. The altarpiece therefore dates from considerably earlier than the laying of the foundation stone. If you are interested in historical furnishings, it provides a point of interest in its own right, alongside the history of the church building.
