A trip to Blavand can be planned around a range of themes: BlĂĄvandshuk Fyr stands at a distinctive geographical point, Tirpitz shares stories of the west coast, and churches and paths in the plantations offer other points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel, these interests can help shape your stay. The sights and activities vary in theme and in the kind of experience they offer.

BlĂĄvandshuk Fyr and wind energy

Blåvandshuk Fyr stands at Denmark’s westernmost point. The tower is 39 metres tall, and 170 steps lead to the top. This gives you a clear idea of its height and the climb if you include the lighthouse in your travel plans.

At BlĂĄvandshuk Fyr, the Horns Rev Wind Farm Visitor Center provides information about wind energy, sustainable energy and electricity generation. The lighthouse and the visitor centre offer different points of interest: a geographical landmark meets an introduction to energy topics. When planning, you can decide whether to include technical topics alongside buildings and history.

West coast stories at Tirpitz

Tirpitz shares hidden stories from the Danish west coast. These include tales of shipwrecks, smugglers and forbidden love. The subject matter encompasses both maritime history and personal stories; it is not limited to a single historical event.

The stories are voiced by actors in Danish, German and English. A German-language version is therefore available for German-speaking guests. Tirpitz also offers guided tours in the surrounding dune landscape. The museum’s themes and tours offer two different points of interest: the stories being told and a guided walk through the dunes.

Church history in Oksby

Oksby Kirke is a Neo-Romanesque church built of red brick. It was built in 1891 to replace Denmark’s last thatched church. Artefacts from the former thatched building have been preserved inside, including the church ship “Briggen Marie-Daniel-Emilie” from 1829. The architectural style, year of construction and preserved objects each offer a different way to explore church history.

The former site of Oksby Gamle Kirke is a separate location. A gravel outline marks the site and dimensions of the former church. There is also a bell at the site that was recovered from a shipwreck. The outline and the bell offer different ways to experience the former church site.

Another historical stop is the memorial at Oksby cemetery. It tells the story of the German sculptor Christoph Voll. Together with Oksby Kirke and the former site of Oksby Gamle Kirke, it adds a distinct biographical element to the history of church architecture.

Paths through the plantations

A popular mountain bike route runs around Ulslo/Tyskervejen in Bordrup-Oksby Plantation. There are also nature trails around Ulfslo, as well as developed walking trails and accessible paths. When planning, it is useful to distinguish between the mountain bike route and the walking trails mentioned: they offer different ways to experience the plantation.

The Kyst til Kyst trail continues through the dunes to Oksby Klitplantage. There you will find BlĂĄvand Hundeskov, a fenced dog exercise area where dogs can run freely. The route, plantation and dog exercise area offer different points of reference when planning outdoor activities. The trails also provide a different focus from the exhibitions and historical sites.

These differences can help you decide what you want to focus on during your trip and plan the options mentioned around your interests.
