Børkop’s character is shaped by a historic watermill with several trails, a museum and outdoor art. There is also Børkop Svømmehal, with pools for different activities. These places give your stay a range of possible focuses: you can explore the history of the mill and its collection, discover trails by the water and through a landscape of alder carr, or consider a cycling tour.

Watermill, millpond and collection

Børkop Vandmølle dates from the 16th century and is a fully operational waterwheel mill of the gear-cassette type. It grinds both groats and flour. The grounds cover about six hectares and include the millpond and the mill meadow. All the buildings and the surrounding grounds are protected. History and landscape come together here in a compact area: the mill is not only a historic building, but also the starting point for several described trails.

Farbror Svends Samling is housed in the former pigsty of Børkop Vandmølle. The collection displays agricultural and household tools. It adds objects from farming and domestic life to the picture of the mill. If you are interested in the history of the place, you can view the mill and the collection as different aspects of the same historic setting.

Trails with different routes

Søstien runs around the millpond and along the new watercourse; it is about 300 metres long. Engstien follows a different route: from the mill courtyard, it crosses the meadow along Skærup Å, crosses the mill channel, and returns along the railway line. The two trails therefore differ mainly in the landscape features described along their routes.

The footpath route runs from the southern part of the mill meadow to Brøndsted Mølle. It follows a natural surface through the old alder carr. While Søstien is clearly defined by its approximate length, Engstien and the footpath are described mainly by their route and surroundings. These differences can help you choose trails based on the landscape you want to experience, without treating the routes as interchangeable.

Cycling tour and outdoor art

For a longer excursion, Børkop Rundt is a separate option: the route is 45 kilometres long and includes 500 metres of elevation gain. It starts and ends in Børkop. These route details provide a concrete guide for planning; the circular route is quite different from the short, locally described trails by the watermill.

Trolden Ene Øjesten adds an outdoor artwork, described as hidden in the natural surroundings of Børkop. The sculpture by Thomas Dambo is made of recycled wood. Its story adds a narrative dimension to the work: in it, the troll finds a magical stone with a hole through which she can see into the future. The material, sculpture and traditional tale of a character come together in this attraction.

Swimming pool and planning your visit

Børkop Svømmehal has a 25-metre pool, diving boards and a children’s pool for children and adults. This offers a different kind of activity from the trails and mill grounds. When planning your time in Børkop, you can consider these activities separately according to your interests, rather than treating them as parts of a single route.

During the summer season, Børkop Vandmølle and its museum are scheduled to open on weekends and public holidays from 2 pm to 5 pm. Check these seasonal opening hours before your visit. This lets you include a museum visit in your plans without assuming that the opening hours apply year-round.
