Mosebølle combines fjord and coastal landscapes with cycling and hiking trails, as well as historic buildings in the surrounding area.

Landscape between fjord and coast

Præstø Fjord and Faxe Bugt are considered the nearest bodies of water to Mosebølle; the town lies north of Præstø Fjord. Nearby Feddet Beach offers shallow swimming water and peaceful nature experiences along the coast of South Zealand. The beach has Blue Flag status; as this certification status can change, check that it is current before your visit. There are also eight easy-to-recognize Fjordposten information points at Præstø Fjord, with information about nature and culture.

A municipal document dated September 24, 2025, notes that the lower approximately 1.3 kilometers of Orup Bæk run through Natura 2000 site no. 168, “The Sea and Coast between Præstø Fjord and Grønsund.” One area recorded there is mapped as the salt meadow habitat type (1330). This connects a specific landscape area with a named habitat type.

Cycling and hiking trails

The signposted Panoramarute 425 is a 36.3-kilometer cycling route. It runs through Feddet and continues to Faxe Limestone Quarry. This route therefore gives you a clear distance and a named destination for planning.

For hiking, a section of the Sjællandsleden runs from Leestrup Skov at Præstø Fjord, across Feddet, to Strandegård Dyrehave. Here, you can use the named places and the trail’s course for orientation; route details may change, so it is advisable to check the latest trail information before setting out. There are also routes through the countryside around Mosebølle with beautiful views.

The two named routes offer different points of reference: the Panoramarute focuses on cycling, distance and destination, while the Sjællandsleden follows a route between the places mentioned. This lets you plan your outing according to whether you are looking for a cycling trip with a specified distance or a hiking section through the countryside.

Getting there and the character of the area

Fed Havn on Feddet is set up for stays and overnight accommodation in a shelter. For bus travel, the timetable, which is listed as valid from June 30, 2024, shows Strandholm (Mosebølle) as a stop on line 287. Check the current timetable before travelling.

The area’s holiday-home character is also documented: Mosebølle Vandværk has 176 connected properties, about 130 of which are summer houses. Mosebølle Strandhuse is designated as a summer-house area for holiday and leisure purposes.

History and architecture

Mosebølle is documented in 1403 under the historical name “Mwsæbølæ.” A further historical reference is nearby Roholte Church, built in 1441 by King Christopher of Bavaria. Its distinctive features include banded masonry and a triangular chancel; the tower and sacristy date from around 1500. During your visit, you can thus distinguish an early record of the town from the dated history of the church’s construction.
