Kobæk Beach brings together the beach, forest trails and opportunities to observe nature. When looking for a hotel in Kobæk Beach, you can first decide whether you mainly want to spend time by the water, enjoy the views or go for walks. The coastal and nature attractions are spread across specific places: the beach, the Kobæk Sø wetland, Kobæk Skov and named trails.

Beach and water

The 90-metre-long bathing pier is located in front of the Kobæk Strand Konferencecenter. There is also a bathing platform for toddlers at the beach. The shallow water is suitable for swimming, playing and light water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. The information distinguishes between a specific platform and activities that are possible in the shallow water.

Coast and views

At Kobæk Beach, a viewpoint with tables and benches offers views over Kobæk Beach, the Storebælt coast and the shallow beach meadows. In good weather, you can also see the Storebælt Bridge and the islands of Agersø and Omø from Kobæk Beach. The Lodshusstien passes the protected Møllebakken viewpoint hill; in clear weather, the view from there stretches across Agersøsund and the Great Belt. The viewpoints differ: the viewpoint takes in the beach, coast and meadows, while Møllebakken looks out over the sound and the Great Belt. These two distant views depend on different weather conditions.

Kobæk Sø and Kobæk Skov

Kobæk Sø is a freshwater wetland created north of the road to Kobæk Beach and is home to numerous waterbirds. A wheelchair-accessible bird tower stands on the southern edge of Kobæk Sø. The beach meadows near Kobæk Skov are part of Natura 2000 site No. 162, “Skælskør Fjord and the sea and coast between Agersø and Glænø”. Kobæk Skov was established in 2006 on a 95-hectare area between Skælskør and Kobæk Beach. That is just under one square kilometre. The nature features differ: Kobæk Sø is a freshwater wetland with waterbirds, while the Natura 2000 designation applies to the beach meadows near Kobæk Skov. The forest, wetland and beach meadows are therefore distinct landscape features.

Trails and history

Trails from Kobæk Beach connect to routes through Kobæk Skov and continue along the outer fjord. The Kobæk hiking trail is unmarked and can only be followed using a map, GPS or smartphone. Before setting out, check the trail markings and plan to bring one of these navigation tools. A branch of the Lodshusstien leads to Kobæk Beach. Residents of Agersø and Omø used the Lodshusstien as a church path until they built their own churches in the 16th century. The routes have different highlights: the Lodshusstien combines views with historical use, while navigation is the main consideration on the unmarked Kobæk hiking trail.
