Kalvehave offers a range of starting points for planning a trip: a marina on the Ulvsund, a striking bridge, a historic church, and experiences both on land and underwater. Deciding which of these matters most to you can help you plan your stay around a particular theme. The places and activities focus on different things—from maritime history to nature and puzzles.

Harbor and bridge on the Ulvsund

Kalvehave Harbor is a pleasant marina with dinghies and fishing boats. The marina can accommodate around 300 boats and is located directly beneath the Queen Alexandrine Bridge and right next to the Møn Bridge. The harbor offers views of the Ulvsund. The tourist information office at Kalvehave Harbor provides information about South Zealand and Møn. Here, tangible sights of the harbor and water go hand in hand with information about the two regions.

The Queen Alexandrine Bridge crosses the Ulvsund between Kalvehave and Koster. It is 746 meters long and opened on May 30, 1943. Queen Alexandrine inaugurated the bridge, which was named after her. The setting on the sound and the bridge are therefore defining features of Kalvehave’s maritime character. The area’s history stretches back a long way, too: finds indicate that it dates back to the Stone Age, and that Kalvehave has served as a crossing point to Møn since then.

Church and landscape

Kalvehave Church is the oldest church in the municipality. Built of brick around 1225–1250 at a sacred spring, it has been a wayside church since 1998. Opening hours and guided tours vary by season; tours are available. If you plan to visit the church or are interested in a guided tour, take these seasonal arrangements into account when planning your visit.

Details inside the church also tell the story of different eras: it has a High Renaissance altarpiece from the late 16th century, made by “Bårse herreds snedker.” The medieval building and a work of art created later thus stand side by side. A protected landscape area with grazed salt meadows and shallow coastal waters surrounds the church. The protected areas around Kalvehave are also suitable for a short walk.

Underwater trail and labyrinth park

The underwater trail near Kalvehave Harbor runs across a sandy seabed, a rocky reef and seagrass meadows, and through a kelp forest. It helps visitors observe fish and other species. You can enter at the end of the pier or from the shore; red buoys mark the individual entry points. These sections make the trail a unique way to explore the underwater world near Kalvehave.

The Kalvehave Labyrinth Park offers a different kind of discovery. Covering 20,000 m², it features mazes, large games and brainteasers. The park combines spatial orientation with playful and challenging activities. If you choose a destination based on the activities available, this focus offers a clear contrast with the nature and water themes at the harbor.

Seasonal connection to Møn

During the summer months, the seasonal Møn ferry connects Kalvehave with the harbor at Stege. It serves as a “floating cycle path.” If you would like to factor this connection into your plans, check the timetable before you travel, as the service is seasonal. This makes the ferry a distinct part of your itinerary, alongside excursions in Kalvehave, without conflating the other destinations and their different focuses.
