Březnice Castle – Culture, Park and Historical Traces

Březnice Castle is home to the Lokšanská Library, the oldest castle hall for a library in the Czech Republic preserved in its original form. The hall dates from 1558. During a self-guided tour of Březnice Castle, the individual noble families and the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Empire interiors are presented.
The present form of the Březnice synagogue dates from 1874. In their texts and forms, the Hebrew tombstones in the Jewish cemetery of Březnice recall the tombstones in Prague’s Old Jewish Cemetery. The Ludvík Kuba Gallery in Březnice displays works with motifs from Březnice and South Bohemia, as well as portraits, figure paintings and genre paintings, in four halls.
The Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint Francis Xavier in Březnice was built between 1642 and 1650 by Carlo Lurago and his brother Martin. Its single-nave interior with side chapels is richly decorated with stucco and numerous works of art.
Nature
The grounds of Březnice Castle continue southwards into an English park and further east into an extensive castle game preserve. The park and garden of Březnice Castle are freely accessible to the public at the stated times.
The Tušílkova Trail is a forest path for families with children and offers various stations with educational opportunities.
Local Character
Herold Brewery in Březnice brews beer using traditional technology with a high proportion of manual work. The associated single-storey Baroque building was constructed after 1722 and has almost completely retained its historical character.
