If you are looking for a hotel in Milín, the focus of your stay can help guide your planning: local history, events or outdoor routes. Milín combines a Victory Monument with a complex history of remembrance, St. Wenceslas Church, and cultural and wayfinding options. If your trip is centred on a film or an event, it is worth checking the current programme or specific dates in advance.

Victory Monument and history of remembrance

The Victory Monument stands on a hill between Milín and its settlement of Slivice. Two pylons made of light-coloured Liberec granite dominate the monument; they are 10.5 and 11 metres high, respectively. It commemorates the last battle of the Second World War on the European continent and the final defeat of Hitler’s German army. The monument’s location and design give it a clear connection to local history.

Commemorative events and battle re-enactments are held at the Victory Monument every year. The specific dates may vary, so check the event date before planning a trip around it. This makes it possible to distinguish the site’s historical significance from the question of when a commemorative event or re-enactment takes place.

St. Wenceslas Church

St. Wenceslas Church also offers an insight into Milín’s architectural history. It was created by converting a grain storehouse dating from 1824 and was built between 1887 and 1890 by the master builder Antonín Bastl from Příbram. On 27 September 1890, Metropolitan Canon Dr František Krásl consecrated it. These dates mark different stages: the earlier grain storehouse, the church’s construction period and its consecration.

The building’s history did not end with its construction. An air raid damaged the church in 1945; it was repaired between 1946 and 1948. Together with the details about its conversion and construction period, this gives a layered account of local history, distinct from the remembrance associated with the Victory Monument.

Culture, events and cinema

Milín’s Masopust has been a recurring tradition since 2008. The 2026 edition includes a procession through the town as well as stops featuring scenes and dancing. If you would like to attend a future edition, check the relevant dates before your trip; the fact that the event recurs does not imply a specific date.

Milín Cinema regularly shows films, usually on Fridays and also on Tuesdays twice a month. School screenings and special screenings are also held. As the programme relates to specific screenings, check the current film titles and dates before you travel. This lets you plan a cinema visit deliberately rather than relying on a particular film night.

Circular trails and wayfinding

The Milín–Vrančice educational trail includes an educational loop and a recreational fitness trail. The shorter loop is about 1.7 kilometres long and has six stops. The educational trail also has six play and interactive stations focused on nature, especially for children.

Near Milín, the Vrančická draha educational trail runs around a pasture. Wooden arrows mark the route; an information board at the entrance shows the location of the individual stops on a map. Separately, cycle route 302 and two marked hiking trails run through Milín. These different options make Milín an interesting place to plan a stay focused on culture and trails, without combining the named routes into a single route.

Information on site

The Centrum volnočasových aktivit serves visitors as a cultural, information and tourism centre. It provides information about the region, current event announcements and bus connections, as well as Milín brochures and tourist stamps. It brings together regional orientation and event planning to help you prepare for your stay.

The centre includes a publicly accessible garden with a climbing wall, Russian skittles, a children’s sandpit, benches and a summer pavilion. These features give the garden a different character from the historic sites and circular trails. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on history, culture, trail stops or spending time in the garden.
