Discover Libáň between culture and nature
Libáň appeals through specific places: the Kostel sv. Ducha has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964, the monument to Mistr Jan Hus unveiled on 6 July 1925 stands on Svobody Square, and the more than 300-year-old Libáňská borovička stands at Na Horách above Libáň.
Culture and Places of Remembrance
The Kostel sv. Ducha is a Baroque building that Josef Hager had erected between 1755 and 1757 on the site of an earlier wooden chapel. The Kostel sv. Ducha contains rare Baroque organs that were completely renovated in 1998. The statue of sv. Josef dates from 1783; in 1925, it was moved from the square to the Kostel sv. Ducha.
The monument to Mistr Jan Hus was created according to a design by prof. Ladislav Šaloun by the sculptor František Bílek. The monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský also has a clearly dated history: it was erected in Libáň in 1909. It was designed and created by the sculptor Jaroslav Jedlička from Vojice.
The events culture also has its own name: the “Libáňský hudební máj” music festival was founded in 2001 to continue the tradition of the event of the same name. For visitors interested in culture, a religious building, organs, statues, monuments and a festival thus provide different points of interest side by side.
Nature
Libáňská borovička is considered a symbol of Libáň. At more than 300 years old, it connects the place Na Horách above Libáň with a single, named natural and commemorative site.
Pilský rybník lies on the Hasinský potok. The body of water covers 50 hectares and serves as a nesting and gathering place for birds. The natural area is therefore described not only by a place name, but also by its size and its function as a place for birds.
