The cadastral area of Mlýnec u Kopidlina lies within the Dymokursko and Rožďalovické rybníky protected areas; archaeological traces add to the picture of the village’s history. Depending on how you choose to balance nature, outdoor activities and cultural history during your stay, these themes offer different points of interest.
Ponds and Forests
The area around Mlynec is characterized by the Polabí landscape, with ponds and wooded areas, and offers good conditions for relaxation and spending time in nature. Rybník Zrcadlo pond is known among locals and visitors for its size and diverse aquatic and bird life. The forests around the village attract mushroom pickers and people seeking peace in nature. Local paths make for pleasant walks and cycling trips.
Nature and Bird Protection
The cadastral area of Mlýnec u Kopidlina lies within the Dymokursko Natura 2000 site of European importance. Dymokursko encompasses a very well-preserved complex of deciduous forests, wet meadows and aquatic ecosystems. The cadastral area also lies within the Rožďalovické rybníky Special Protection Area, which protects populations and habitats of the western marsh harrier and the crane. The larger Rožďalovické rybníky bird protection area is an important migratory area for waterbirds and birds of prey, with up to 3,000–4,000 individuals. The two protected-area designations have different emphases: Dymokursko encompasses a range of habitats, while Rožďalovické rybníky brings together bird protection and migration.
Getting Here and Walking Routes
Mlýnec railway station is served by line 061 between Nymburk and Jičín. Check train connections for your travel date. A railway information page updated in 2025 states that the station is about 650 metres from the village centre and that a paved footpath runs between the station and the village; the footpath was observed in 2018. This gives you an approximate guide to the stretch between the railway station and the village centre. A yellow-marked hiking trail also leads from the station through the local forests to Bučický rybník pond. Check the current route before setting out.
Chapel and Archaeological Traces
A chapel stands southwest of Mlynec. The cadastral area of Mlynec is a polycultural archaeological site, with finds ranging from the Linear Pottery culture to the modern era. Near the Mrlina, traces of prehistoric, early medieval and high medieval settlements have been identified in the cadastral areas of Kopidlno and Mlynec. The chronological scopes differ: the site contains finds from the Linear Pottery culture to the modern era, while the traces along the Mrlina relate to three specific periods. These cultural and historical references thus range from a single structure southwest of the village to archaeological traces across several cadastral areas.
