Náchod brings together several cultural and historical themes: fortifications and their military context, sites of the Battle of Náchod, and a festival that looks back to the 18th century. In Běloves, the Malé lázně Běloves recreational area adds mineral water and a Kneipp massage path. When choosing where to stay, you can consider these different points of interest.

Military history: bunkers and the fortification line

The N-S 84 Voda infantry bunker is the entrance to the Běloveský pevnostní skanzen in Náchod-Běloves. The bunker houses a collection on the history of the Czechoslovak Army and the struggle for freedom. This site therefore explores both the history of the army and the fight for freedom. The collection adds a historical focus to the bunker’s military context.

The N-S 82 Březinka structure offers a different focus: it has been fully restored to its 1938 condition, including its equipment and weapons. The year refers to the structure’s reconstructed condition. The focus therefore differs: N-S 84 Voda houses a collection on the army and the struggle for freedom, while N-S 82 centres on the restoration of a single fortification structure and its equipment.

The “Po vojenském opevnění z let 1936–38” educational trail starts in the Běloves district of Náchod. It explains the role of the fortification line in Czechoslovakia’s defence strategy before the Second World War. This adds a strategic perspective to the focus on individual structures. The distinction is useful when choosing what to visit: the trail covers the function of the line, while the information about N-S 82 concerns the reconstructed condition of a specific structure.

Another historic route is called “Náchod–Vysokov–Václavice 1866” and leads to sites where the Battle of Náchod was fought. Here, the focus is on the battle sites, while the educational trail explains the defence strategy before the Second World War. The two routes offer different ways to explore military history.

Kuronské slavnosti and their history

The Náchodské Kuronské slavnosti evoke a unique 18th-century atmosphere. They are inspired by the history of Náchod Castle and the personality of Duke Peter Biron. The programme includes craft markets; individual editions may vary. The slavnosti traditionally take place in early September, although specific dates may change. If the festival is a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates for the relevant edition before making plans. This lets you take the festival’s cultural character into account when choosing your travel dates.

Malé lázně Běloves: recreational area and mineral springs

The Malé lázně Běloves recreational area was opened by the town of Náchod in 2019 and is located in the Běloves district. Its distinctive building is the restored Vila Komenský. Visitors can sample mineral water from the natural healing springs Jan and Běla. Malé lázně also has a Kneipp massage path. This offers two distinct reasons to visit: sampling the spring water and using the Kneipp path. Access to the springs and drinking facilities may change; check current sampling availability before your visit.
