Zábrodí: Pond, Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Zábrodí
Zábrodí can be explored through several distinct themes: Brodský Pond and the landscape, marked trails and a cycle route, as well as local history. If you are looking for a hotel, these interests can guide your choice of destination. Consider whether the landscape, a trail route or the historic monuments should be the deciding factor for your stay.
Brodský Pond and the Landscape
Brodský Pond lies within the cadastral area of Zábrodí and covers just under 16 hectares. The recreation area by the pond includes a small rope centre, a fairy-tale trail with wooden sculptures and a children’s playground. The facilities may operate seasonally. If you want to make definite plans to visit these attractions, check whether they will be open during your chosen dates.
There are forests in the vicinity of Zábrodí. East of Zábrodí, relatively flat agricultural land stretches out, with views across the border into Kladsko. South of Zábrodí, you can see Náchod Castle and Dobrošov Mountain. Fields define the view to the east, while the castle and mountain are the landmarks to the south—two different directions to help orient you as you explore the landscape.
Hiking Trails and Cycle Route
Two marked hiking trails differ in colour, starting point and route. The blue-marked trail leads from Zábrodí and Horní Rybníky through the valley of the Špinka stream into the Úpa valley. A yellow-marked trail begins at the campsite by Brodský Pond and heads towards the Úpa valley. The blue trail leads into the Úpa valley, while the yellow trail heads in its direction; their stated starting points also differ. This helps you distinguish the two trails when planning, rather than treating them as a single route.
For cyclists, KČT cycle route 4095 connects Zábrodí with Červený Kostelec, Kramolna and Náchod. It offers a different way to get your bearings than the hiking trails: rather than running through or towards a valley, it connects several named places. When planning your activities, you can choose between a marked hiking trail associated with a valley and a cycle route that connects Zábrodí with other places.
History and Monuments
Zábrodí became part of the Náchod estate in 1582. The monument to the fallen heroes in Zábrodí was unveiled on 17 August 1924. The Holy Trinity group in Zábrodí and the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk have also been restored. Together, these details represent different historical points of reference: the connection to the Náchod estate, the monument to the fallen, and two restored religious monuments. When placing these events in chronological context, distinguish between the two dates: 1582 marks Zábrodí’s incorporation into the Náchod estate, while 17 August 1924 is the date the monument was unveiled.
