Cycling route and landscape
Cycling route 2044 offers a clear starting point if you want to include cycling in your stay. It runs through Lomnice and over the Lomnická spoil tip. The route is rated as difficult and is suitable for trekking and cross bikes. When choosing a ride, you can take the difficulty rating and the recommended bike types into account alongside the route.
The Lomnické pinky, south of Lomnice, offer a different perspective. Subsidence caused by deep mining has shaped this area, creating diverse habitats with different microclimates. Alongside structures built by people, you can also find a landscape shaped by the effects of deep mining.
Church and local history
The Church of St. Aegidius dates back to the 13th century and combines Gothic, Renaissance and Empire styles. The surviving roof structure also offers a tangible glimpse into its architectural history: it consists of three sections and is considered the oldest identified roof structure in the Karlovarský kraj outside the city of Cheb and the Chebsko region.
The Morový sloup, or plague column, is a remnant of an early Baroque granite column dating from 1681. It was erected in memory of the victims of the 1633 plague epidemic; its upper section has been destroyed. The dates mark different stages: 1633 for the epidemic and 1681 for the erection of the column.
Mining colony and memorial
The mining colony in Lomnice was built in 1921 for the miners of the Köstner mine, later called Jiří. Its houses have mansard roofs and are arranged in a horseshoe shape around a central courtyard. The mansard roofs define the roofline, while the horseshoe layout places the courtyard at the centre of the plan. Here, two distinct effects of mining can be seen side by side: a settlement built for miners and a landscape south of Lomnice shaped by subsidence caused by deep mining.
The war memorial to Lomnice and Týn was ceremonially unveiled on 14 July 1920 below the Church of St. Aegidius. In 1937, it was moved to a park on the village square in front of the old school building. The unveiling and its later relocation are two distinct stages in the memorial’s history.
