Dotterwies: Views, Dam and Local History
Accommodation in Dotterwies
When planning a stay in Dotterwies, you can choose from three perspectives: the panorama at Chodaublick, the history of the Tatrovice Dam, and the religious and mining heritage in Tatrovice. This is a way to get to know the place through its landscape, architectural history and local traditions.
Views and route orientation
Chodaublick is a viewpoint in Tatrovice. From a rocky outcrop at Chodaublick, the view extends over Chodov to Hory, Vintířov, Nové Sedlo and Karlovy Vary. These named places give the panorama a specific geographical frame. If you like to shape your stay around the landscape and views, this viewpoint is a clearly identified highlight.
From Tatrovice, follow the yellow tourist trail to Chodovská vyhlídka. As trail markings can change, check the current route before setting out. This lets you factor the marked route, with a named starting point and destination, into your plans.
Dam and waterworks history
The Tatrovice Dam offers another perspective on local history: it was built from 1966 to 1969 as a water-supply reservoir for the Vřesová industrial complex. Its construction period and purpose make it a specific point of reference in the region’s water-supply history.
The official route follows the Tatrovický potok and continues to Tatrovice. This gives you two different points of interest related to water: the stream as a landmark along the route, and the dam as a historic structure built to serve a water-supply function. A parking lot is located directly below the dam. As trail markings and visitor facilities can change, it is worth checking the latest information in advance.
Church and historical landmarks
Two historical dates associated with the Church of St. Erhard are worth distinguishing. The original Gothic parish church was built in the first half of the 14th century; the church has been protected as a monument since 3 May 1958. The first date relates to its construction, the second to its later designation as a protected monument. The church is occasionally accessible; access may depend on local arrangements.
The statue of St. John of Nepomuk still stands in the central part of the former village green. The polychrome late-Baroque statue in Tatrovice dates from 1783. Together, these landmarks reflect different historical layers of the place: the parish church’s origins and the statue’s date.
Bílá paní adit
The Štola Bílá paní is located at the foot of Liščí kopec near Tatrovice. The main adit is approximately 40 metres long and curves southwest; the only side adit is cut into the rock to the northeast. Its approximate length alone does not fully describe the site: the curve of the main adit and the direction of the side adit also define its layout.
The name, too, connects the site with local tradition. Before the Second World War, residents of the surrounding communities knew the adit as the “Cave of the White Lady.” This links a specific description of its physical form with a historic local name.
