Mačkov combines historic buildings and memorial sites with cycling routes and a quarry designated as a bathing spot. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these different themes may influence your travel plans. In the centre and at other locations to the west and east of the village, architectural and memorial history meet cycling routes and water.

Chapel, Farmhouse and Monuments

The chapel is a defining feature of Mačkov’s central public space. The centre is also home to a wooden bell tower clad in sheet metal; the year 1809 is inscribed above its entrance. Farmhouse No. 27 is an immovable cultural monument. It was probably built towards the end of the 18th century and preserves valuable interiors featuring log construction, wooden beam ceilings and vaults.

Log construction is a building method using beams; wooden beam ceilings make the timber visible overhead, while the vaults introduce a different structural form within the same interiors. To appreciate the history of rural architecture, it is not only the house’s probable age that matters, but also the different forms found inside.

In the centre stands a monument to those who fell in the First World War. West of Mačkov is an ornate cast-iron cross. The monument to K. H. Borovský stands on a hill east of the village; its foundation stone was laid in 1906.

The dates refer to different things: 1809 is inscribed above the bell tower entrance; the farmhouse was probably built towards the end of the 18th century; and the foundation stone for the Borovský monument was laid in 1906. Thus, the date on the bell tower, the farmhouse’s approximate construction period and the laying of the foundation stone relate to different historical events.

The locations also help put the cultural sites into context: the chapel, bell tower and monument to those who fell are in the centre. The cross is west of Mačkov, and the Borovský monument is on a hill east of the village. The buildings and memorials are therefore spread beyond the village centre.

Cycling Routes and Bathing Spot

Cycling Route 312 passes through Mačkov and connects Blatná, Jindřichovice, Bratronice, Mečíchov and Horažďovice along this section. There is also a newly built cycle path between Blatná and Mačkov, which is suitable for pedestrians as well. The two routes differ in their orientation: Route 312 passes through Mačkov and lists several other places, while the path between Blatná and Mačkov can also be used on foot.

The dam of the Great Mačkovský Pond is recommended as a stop on the route between Blatná and Mačkov. The Mačkov quarry is designated as a bathing spot. If you plan to swim there, check the bathing conditions on site.

When looking for a hotel in Mačkov, you can weigh up these options according to your travel interests: architectural and memorial history, a cycling route or the designated bathing spot. The routes have different features; the cycle path between Blatná and Mačkov is also specified as suitable for pedestrians. If you plan to swim, it is important to check the conditions locally.
