Nebřehovice: Chapel, History and Walking Trails
Accommodation in Nebřehovice
Nebřehovice can be understood through its distinctive local features: a Baroque chapel, historical traces from different centuries and trails in the municipality. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, these features may help you choose your destination. Depending on whether you are more interested in architectural styles, historical timelines or a walking route, you will notice different aspects of the village.
The Chapel and Village Centre
A brick chapel in the Baroque style, dating from the 18th century, stands in the village square in Nebřehovice. Its square floor plan and pyramidal roof with a lantern describe the building’s form more precisely than simply assigning it to a century. The floor plan indicates a square layout; the roof and lantern form the upper section. For architecture enthusiasts, both the basic shape and the roof structure are important features.
The bell tower in the village square, in the centre of the village, is a valuable element of the townscape. Rural property No. 3 is also in the village centre, on the road to Strakonice. Together with the chapel, these provide different architectural points of reference: a religious building, a bell tower and a rural property.
Traces of the Past
The historical record reaches back to the Middle Ages. In 1253, Petr of Nebřehovice is documented as a retainer of Bavor of Strakonice; Zdeněk of Nebřehovice is mentioned towards the end of the 14th century. The two names represent different historical milestones: Petr belongs to the middle of the 13th century, while Zdeněk lived more than a century later. The medieval water castle also ceased to serve its purpose at the beginning of the 16th century. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it gradually disappeared as a structure as well. It should therefore be understood as a vanished historical site, not an intact building.
A bell weighing 56 kilograms once hung in the chapel’s bell tower; in 1942 it was confiscated by the Germans. This event belongs to a much later period than the medieval figures and the water castle.
Village Pond, Trails and Roads
The village pond provides another date: in 1920, Linden trees commemorating freedom were planted on its dam. The trees’ name and the planting year make this spot a dated local landmark. It differs from the medieval names and the water castle because it centres on a specific planting in the 20th century. If you want to explore Nebřehovice through different historical periods, you can distinguish between architectural, biographical and landscape-related clues.
There is a tourist walking trail in the municipality of Nebřehovice. A yellow-marked footpath with a recorded length of 2.7 kilometres is listed (as of 2020); check the current markings on site. These details describe different aspects: the walking trail at municipal level, and a specific route length and marking colour. You can take both into account when planning while keeping in mind that the current markings may have changed.
For road directions, it helps to distinguish the municipal area from the road running through the village. Road I/22 runs through the northern part of the Nebřehovice planning area and connects Domažlice, Klatovy, Horažďovice, Strakonice and Vodňany. Road III/1428 passes through Nebřehovice, connects to I/22 and continues towards Strakonice, where it joins road III/1427. This makes it possible to distinguish geographically between I/22, which crosses the planning area, and III/1428, which runs through the village, when locating Nebřehovice on a map.
