The history of Předslavice is reflected in a variety of clues: a historic trade route, architectural features with specific dates, and an inscription about former ownership. There is also a cycling route through the village and a museum showcasing traditional crafts. For planning your trip, you can consider history, architecture, and cycling as distinct areas of interest.

Trade Route and Church

Předslavice developed along the so-called German trade route, which ran from Passau via Písek to Prague. This route makes the historic transport connection clear: Písek lies on the described route between Passau and Prague.

The Church of the Holy Trinity and Saint Wenceslas is first mentioned in writing in 1350. Its preserved portal dates from 1320 to 1330. The portal therefore predates the church’s first written mention. The church also preserves a late Gothic baptismal font. The portal and baptismal font offer two distinct architectural points of interest: the portal is notable for its specific date range, while the font is identified by its late Gothic style. The church thus has both a precisely dated architectural feature and a stylistically defined furnishing.

Gateway, Gable and Inscription

The Baroque gateway of the former estate “U Blumů” dates from 1848. It was created by Jakub Bursa, a folk architect and artist-mason. The traditional building at Předslavice 4 has a gateway with a Baroque gable above it. These examples have different points of focus: at “U Blumů,” the gateway, year of construction, and creator stand out; at Předslavice 4, it is the combination of gateway and gable. An inscription on this building states that the Malinů family owned the farm as early as before 1655. It adds another time period to the building’s history: the farm’s earlier ownership.

Cycling Route and Crafts

The “Kolem tvrzí a Muzea venkovského života v Předslavicích” cycling route passes through Předslavice. When planning your ride, take seasonal conditions into account, as they can change. The LIVA Předslavice Museum of Rural Life showcases traditional crafts. These represent two distinct interests: cycling along a route through the village and traditional crafts as a museum theme.

Other Architectural Features

In the settlement of Kakovice, which belongs to the municipality of Předslavice, the Chapel of Saint Anne stands on the village green. A rotunda stands on a hill in the area around Předslavice. The chapel and rotunda thus highlight two different settings: the village green in Kakovice and a hill near Předslavice.

Getting There

Předslavice is served by public buses and private vehicles. If you plan to arrive by bus, check the timetable for your travel dates. This will help you plan your arrival for the specific day of your trip.
