Přední Zborovice lies on the Volyňka in the foothills of the Šumava. The river shapes the village with its picturesque bends; at the same time, you will find buildings and traditions here from different periods. For your travel plans, you can alternate between scenery, walks, and local history.

River landscape and trails

The Volyňka flows through Přední Zborovice. The section in the village is designated as a trout fishing water. The surrounding area offers very good hiking, and several local highlights can be combined with a walk without requiring a specific route.

Remains of a medieval fortified settlement lie in the dense coniferous forests above the village and can be visited on walks. The Zlatá stezka leads past Přední Zborovice to a junction below Mount Ostrá. From there, there are far-reaching views towards the Volyňka valley. The fortified settlement and the junction offer different impressions: the history of a former defensive site on the one hand, and views across the valley on the other.

Getting there and cycling route

Přední Zborovice station is on the eastern edge of the village, on railway line 198 between Strakonice, Vimperk, and Volary. If you are planning to travel by train, check the timetable before departure. Departure times are not provided here.

The Volyňka cycling route also passes through Přední Zborovice. It runs from the source of the Volyňka in the Šumava to its confluence with the Otava in Strakonice. For a section within the local cadastral area, we recommend checking the current surface and access conditions before setting out. This keeps your route planning suited to the specific conditions of this section, rather than assuming that the entire cycling route’s course applies to every individual stretch.

Chapel, bridge, and wayside shrine

Near the Volyňka, Kaplička Ukřižování Páně stands at a junction on the roads to Sousedovice and Radošovice. It is situated between two mature, protected lime trees and dates from the first half of the 18th century. The chapel is two metres high, has a rectangular ground plan, and faces east. Its compact rectangular form differs clearly from the tiered structure of the Boží muka, which dates from the 17th century.

The Boží muka stands in a field between Přední Zborovice and Radošovice. Its three levels, separated by cornices, become smaller towards the top. Another striking architectural feature is the stone bridge over the Volyňka, built between 1912 and 1913. The chapel, wayside shrine, and bridge each add their own note to the village’s history—through their location, form, or date of construction.

Historic routes and local traditions

Finds of Roman coins and other objects of Roman origin point to a historic route through Zborovice. Another route can be dated more precisely: in the time of Maria Theresa, Přední Zborovice lay on the so-called old road from Mýto (Mauth) in Bavaria towards Strakonice. Both clues tell of routes through the region, but they belong to different historical contexts.

The Zborovické lípy are also linked to a local tradition: according to the story, soldiers from the Swedish Wars are buried beneath them. Historical accounts by merchants also describe Přední Zborovice as a popular resting place after the strenuous descent from the forests of the Šumava. This account refers to the village’s former role; it is not a description of a current resting place or facility.
