Ratiborské Hory: Mining History and Culture
Accommodation in Ratiborské Hory
Ratiborské Hory combines a long mining history with historic buildings; the Homole lookout point adds sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first consider whether historic background, architecture, or a view is most important to you.
Mining History and Preserved Traces
Ratibořské Hory depended on mining for several centuries. From 1526 onward, the development of the town was linked to silver mining. Traces of historic mining remain in the terrain within Ratibořské Hory. The connection with silver from 1526 and the traces in the terrain add two different perspectives to this long period: a historical link to the town’s development and a visible legacy. Silver was first mined in the region at the Tří Králů mine. This detail describes the regional sequence of silver mining, while the reference to several centuries of dependence concerns the town itself. The protected, abandoned ore mine lies south and southeast of Ratibořské Hory, in a strip between the Ratibořský stream and the Tábor–Mladá Vožice road.
Buildings and Their Periods
The Church of St. Adalbert (sv. Vojtěcha) in Ratibořské Hory is a Baroque building constructed from 1720 to 1722. The Baroque designation places the church in an art-historical context, while the dates specify its construction period. The Návesní Chapel in Ratibořské Hory dates from the second half of the 18th century. The two religious buildings can therefore be compared chronologically: a three-year period is given for the church, while a broader part of the century is specified for the chapel.
Ohrazenice Chateau illustrates a different development in architectural history. Between 1778 and 1780, it was converted from an earlier fortress into a two-winged, single-storey Renaissance chateau. Here, the history of the building includes not only the period but also its transformation from fortress to chateau. Compared with the church and chapel, the focus is therefore not solely on the building’s period, but also on the nature of the construction work described.
Homole and Hiking Trails
The Homole lookout point is located on 666-metre-high Homole Mountain and offers sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. It can be reached from Dub via the red-marked hiking trail. The elevation and the view offer two different points of reference: the elevation specifies the mountain, while the sweeping view sets the scene for the landscape.
Another trail connection is the Stříbrná osmička educational trail, which starts in Podolí. Podolí is a district of the municipality of Ratibořské Hory. The red-marked hiking trail leads from Dub to the lookout point, while the educational trail starts in Podolí. This gives you different starting points for walks: a route to a viewpoint and an educational trail that starts in one of the municipality’s districts.
