Černěves offers several points of interest for a trip: the Elbe Cycle Route passes through the village, the Church of St. Procopius reflects a building history spanning several phases, and Černěveský luh is a preserved part of the original Elbe floodplain forest. There is also an archaeologically classified area and a cross associated with the year 1866. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Cycling route through Černěves

The Elbe Cycle Route passes through Černěves and is Cycle Route No. 2 as well as part of EuroVelo 7. These are two designations for the same route: a cycle route number and its inclusion in EuroVelo 7. For travelers planning their tour around this route, Černěves can therefore be considered in relation to a specific route. If the route is the main reason for your trip, you can also use this connection when searching for a hotel in the village.

The Church of St. Procopius and its building phases

Several architectural features come together at the Church of St. Procopius. The rectangular nave is originally Romanesque. The building also has a four-sided chancel and a prismatic tower on the axis of the western façade. In the following century, an Early Gothic chancel and a sacristy were added. The church’s architecture can thus be understood both through its form and through the sequence of its building elements: the Romanesque nave contrasts with a later Early Gothic building phase. The cemetery gate by the church is probably Early Baroque.

Archaeological classification and remembrance of 1866

The Černěves archaeological area is classified as a settlement, burial ground, village, and church. These four designations cover different archaeological categories, so the classification is not limited to a single building. When planning your trip, this may offer a broader cultural and historical connection than viewing the church alone.

Another memorial is the cross on the northern edge of Černěves. The inscription states that a farmer from Černěves made it in memory of those who fell in 1866. The cross is a war memorial to the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. While the archaeological classification names several categories, the cross focuses on remembrance of a particular year of war and on the maker’s place of origin, as stated in the inscription.

Floodplain forest and summer oak

Černěveský luh is a preserved part of the original Elbe floodplain forest. Pedunculate oaks and black poplars dominate the upper canopy. This describes not only the forest landscape but also specifies its upper tree layer by naming two species. A separately named tree is the summer oak “Dub letní na rozcestí,” which stands on a triangular grassy area where three paths meet. The forest describes a landscape extending over an area; the oak, by contrast, is a single tree at a specifically described location. These are two different scales of the landscape theme.
