Chraberce: Baroque Chapel and Nearby Oblík
Accommodation in Chraberce
Chraberce brings together local history, Baroque art and landscape in a compact destination. The town is home to a small Chapel of St. George; nearby, the 509-metre-high basalt hill Oblík rises opposite Chraberce in the Louny landscape panorama. There is also a historic tradition of hop growing. If you are choosing a hotel destination based on cultural and landscape interests, Chraberce offers several distinct themes to help you plan.
Local History and Hop-Growing Tradition
According to historical records, in 1100 Nemoj of the Vršovci family donated Chraberce to the church on Vyšehrad. The Vyšehrad chapter community owned Chraberce until the Hussite Wars. Later, in 1544, the town of Louny bought the settlement from the Vřesovci. This sequence links an early historical record with a later change of ownership. Agriculture is also part of local history: in 1930, hops were grown on eight hectares in Chraberce. This area attests to a historic hop-growing tradition and adds an economic aspect to the history of the church and land ownership.
Baroque Chapel of St. George and Works of Art
A small Baroque Chapel of St. George stands in Chraberce. Its tent roof and a small turret at the top are distinctive features of the building. A tent roof has roof planes that meet at a common high point; the turret sits at the top. Inside is a Baroque painting of St. Wenceslas, restored by V. Šváb in 1873. If you are interested in the painting, check in advance whether access to the chapel is possible, and check the current condition of the interior on site. Below the chapel stands an empty pedestal for a statue of St. Bernard dating from 1736; it is decorated with a relief of St. George. Check the condition of this pedestal on site again. The local history also includes a Baroque statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1726.
Oblík and the Protected Natural Area
Near Chraberce, Oblík rises opposite the town in the Louny landscape panorama. The 509-metre-high basalt hill has steppe vegetation and is a distinctive landscape feature. Chraberce lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The geobiocoenosis of the Lounské středohoří is protected on Oblík. A geobiocoenosis comprises a community of living organisms and its habitat. Two distinct aspects of nature are therefore found here: the municipality’s location within a protected landscape area and the specific object of protection on the hill.
Cycling Route, Hike and Hotel Choice
For active travel plans, two route descriptions should be distinguished. Cycling route No. 232 connects Louny and Chraberce; check the signs on site. A longer hike to Oblík can start near Chraberce. The green-marked hiking trail runs from Louny to Mnichov. Check the trail condition and markings before setting out. The cycling route describes a connection between two places, while the hiking information describes a longer trip to Oblík and the course of a marked trail.
