Discover Cítoliby
Accommodation in Cítoliby
Cítoliby combines a historic town center with educational trails and a recreation area on the eastern edge of town. Highlights in the center include the Church of St. James the Greater, the château, and local sculptures; paths also lead to Bažantnice. This gives visitors several ways to explore the town: architectural and local history on the one hand, and paths and landscapes on the other. The following stops organize these themes so you can plan your trip around the things that interest you most.
Town center: church, château, and sculptures
The Church of St. James the Greater is a Gothic building with a single nave. Together with the château, it forms an urban composition in which the two buildings were deliberately designed in relation to one another. The château is part of the town square, where the Holy Trinity Column also stands. It was created in 1680 and is considered the oldest freestanding sculpture in Cítoliby. The local group of sculptures includes St. Barbara, St. Leonard, and St. Procopius. The town center also retains a regular layout that has existed for seven centuries. The term “single-nave” describes the church’s architectural form; the urban composition, by contrast, relates the church and château as buildings deliberately designed in relation to one another.
Architectural and musical history
The Dělnický dům was built between 1920 and 1923 as a workers’ house and became a center of local social life. Its history adds to the picture of the religious and representative buildings: it points to community life and the house’s original function. The château’s musical history is also associated with Jan Janoušek. He was the first director of the Cítoliby château orchestra. The column from 1680 and the workers’ house from 1920–1923 provide a chronological frame, representing distinctly different periods of construction. This makes it possible to consider Cítoliby’s architectural development, past social life, and musical history as distinct themes.
Educational trails and directions
The Cítoliby educational trail runs from the municipal office via Tyršovo náměstí and the niche chapel on Na Plevně Street to Bažantnice and a cross. The Smolnický potok educational trail continues as far as Cítoliby. While the first lists a sequence of named stops, the second focuses on the continuation to Cítoliby. Two additional information panels present the history and monuments of the market town; their locations and condition may change. Check the latest route information before setting out, as route details may change.
Bažantnice on the eastern edge of town
Bažantnice is a recreation area on the eastern edge of Cítoliby. A Baroque bridge stands on the dam of the pond at Bažantnice. The combination of the recreation area, pond dam, and bridge adds a landscape-focused attraction to the town’s architectural and cultural highlights. Visitors can therefore choose between the town center’s design and a recreation area with a historic structure as distinct themes.
