Dušníky offers a broad sweep of history: prehistoric archaeology sits alongside medieval references to the town and memories of the early 19th century. There is also a woodland complex west of the settlement and views of the panorama of the České středohoří. If you want to take both history and landscape into account when planning your trip, you will find a range of points of interest here—from the long barrow to evidence from more recent times.

The long barrow and its date

The long barrow in Dušníky belongs to the Funnel Beaker culture and is dated to 3800–3500 BC. Its trapezoidal ground plan measures 86 × 16–26 metres. Its cultural attribution and date range place the find in its archaeological context; its shape and dimensions describe the structure. The associated earthwork is 1.5 metres high and is located in a ploughed field. This part of the area is notable both for its specific architectural form and for its clearly defined prehistoric date.

Local history and historical evidence

Two dates are relevant to the medieval history of the town. When Doksany Monastery was founded in 1141, King Vladislav gave the monastery half of Dušníky, namely the lower estates. The first written mention of Dušníky dates from 1226.

A chapel in Dušníky was built in 1813. Its construction is associated with the period of the Napoleonic Wars, from 1804 to 1813. A military hospital was set up at the Novotný estate, and there was a cemetery on the adjoining plot. The chapel’s year of construction therefore falls within the stated period of the wars. A sandstone wayside shrine with a metal cross dates from 1825, twelve years later. In addition, house No. 2 is a designated cultural heritage site. Together, these offer different historical points of reference: a chapel built in connection with wartime events, a dated sandstone monument and a protected house.

Woodland and views

Alongside its historical themes, the landscape offers another perspective. A woodland complex lies west of the settlement and is among Dušníky’s natural assets. There are also views from Dušníky of the panorama of the České středohoří. The woodland complex is a natural area west of the settlement; the views look out over the named panorama. If you also base your travel plans on landscape features, these details add a spatial perspective to the local history.
