When planning a trip to Žalhostice, there are several options to choose from: hiking up Radobýl, relaxing and enjoying water sports at Píšťany Lake, cycling along the Labská magistrála, and exploring winegrowing and local history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether views, water, a cycling route or regional culture will shape your stay.

Landscape between the lake and Radobýl

Píšťany Lake lies between Velké Žernoseky, Píšťany and Žalhostice. It is a popular recreational area with sandy shores and good conditions for windsurfing and other water sports. The Radobýl Nature Monument covers 6.256 hectares in the cadastral areas of Litoměřice and Žalhostice. It protects a geomorphologically significant neovolcanic mountain with preserved basalt column structures, as well as rocky, rocky-steppe, scree and grassland communities. The difference between the two nature-focused options is clear: the lake is all about its shores and water sports, while Radobýl offers basalt formations, habitat communities and views.

Hiking and views at Radobýl

The yellow-marked hiking trail starts south of Žalhostice railway stop on line 087 and leads to the summit of Radobýl. From there, you can enjoy an almost panoramic view of Litoměřice, the Elbe, Píšťany Lake, Lovosice, the Terezín Basin and the adjoining part of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The summit view makes this a well-defined outing; check trail conditions before setting out.

Water event and cycling route

The Žalhostická Neckyáda is a traditional public water event on the banks of the Elbe in Žalhostice. Boats of various shapes, colors and sizes compete for a trophy from Žalhostice. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the date in advance.

The Labská magistrála runs through Velké Žernoseky and Žalhostice to Litoměřice. This cycling route follows the Elbe between Dresden and Prague, with other cycle paths connecting to it or crossing it along the way. The difference between hiking and cycling is clear: the yellow-marked trail climbs Radobýl for its views, while the Labská magistrála forms part of the long-distance Elbe route.

Winegrowing and tours

Žalhostice is known for fruit growing, especially apricots, and, together with Velké Žernoseky, for winegrowing. The village is part of the Litoměřice wine subregion. By prior arrangement, Vinařství pod Radobýlem offers guided tours with wine tasting at its winery in Žalhostice. The tour introduces visitors to the technology used and the winemaking process. In suitable weather, the visit can be extended with a walk through the vineyard to a chapel and bell tower. Thus, a scheduled visit combines insights into winemaking with a tasting; the walk is an option when the weather allows.

The Chapel of St. Nicholas

The Chapel of St. Nicholas was founded in 1360 on the slope of Radobýl, among vineyards. After being damaged during the Thirty Years’ War, it was restored in 1672. In the 19th century, its interior included an altar and wall paintings of Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Nicholas, God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit.
